Hi everyone, this is my first post. I bought a 2005 LJ a few months ago. I’ve been trying to learn as much as I can since then. The seats in my Jeep are not very comfortable and I’d like to upgrade them. I know there are great seats from PRP and Corbeau, etc. but I’d rather not spend $1500-2000 on the seats. I was wondering if any of you have swapped your stock seats for any from another vehicle, and how difficult it was? I’m sure there’ll be some fab involved for some kind of adapter. Do you have any suggestions for a donor car who’s seats will fit in a TJ without too much fabrication?

Thanks.

I did the Tiburon seats. However, I will be going back to stock once I source a set of OEM sliders. I somehow lost them from my original seats. The Tiburon seats are very comfortable but I miss the simple tilt forward function of the originals. Here is a thread with some info and different seats that people have used.

Thanks for the link, I don't know why it didn't show up in my search.
I understand wanting to keep the tilt forward function. I want to keep that too. I saw someone with GTI seats in his TJ and he kept the stock sliders so he still had the tilt forward function. My plan is to adapt seats to the stock sliders too.

Welcome to the forum

The thing you really have to consider is height. The tj seat bottom is flattish for a reason. All too often seats out of another vehicle put your belly or testicles way too close to the steering wheel. Just a tidbit to think about when choosing a seat

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. This is why I'm looking for what others have done, so I know what to look for.

JK seats worked well for me, but I made the mistake of getting 4-door seats and the passenger seat has no flip function now.
Adapting them to the original rails wasn't that complicated; I did it without any welding.
The issue w/ the flip assembly is that the 4-door seats don't have the lever on the side, so there's no easy/clean way to activate the latch.

Pick-a-Part Mini seats. There are a few forums and Reddits about Mini seats fitting a TJ perfectly. I thought I saw a post here but no hits. Haven’t tried but will be in the market shortly.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm hoping to find some gently used seats from somewhere. I'll keep a look out for all the seats suggested here.

I've never looked for an upholstery shop as I figured it would be more expensive than buying new, but it doesn't hurt to get a quote I suppose.

I had my seat re-upholstered. Cost was $800.00 for both. They are extremely comfortable and I could pick any color/material combination I wanted.

Edit: He also put in new foam so they're better than I remember them new.
