I know this is a silly question because there could be lots of causes but I thought I would ask about the main possibilities before i start tearing the dash apart.

Thanks

I can sympathize with this. My previous Jeep was a 2000 Cherokee with the same plasticky dash the TJ has. That damn thing squeaked like a hamster wheel. I ended up being able to narrow down the location in the dash that was squeaking and put some felt in between where the plastic pieces contacted which pretty much solved it.

This just reminded me of a squeak I had.
Found I could push on this one spot and make the squeak stop. Added some tape or something between the overlapping panels.

my '97 has a squeak too but i found a round knob in the center of the dash that seemed to be the problem. when i rotated it counter clockwise the squeak was noticeable but if I rotated it clockwise it went away.....
