Colonoscopy day tomorrow

ahhh the recent memories..

I'm doing good on the prep so far but good point about it. The nurse told me that every once in a while people don't follow the prep and then have to do the procedure again, not fun!!!

My father-in-law didn't take it serious and had to do it a second time.

So they didn't put you under? Is that what they call twilight? You are awake but don't care about things going where they shouldn't lol

It's probably "conscious sedation". I had that done to me when I had wisdom teeth removed. I remember getting to the office and being prepped, then I "came-to" in my backyard probably 4 hours later. I don't remember anything in between, but I had to tell my wife how to get back home.

Nope, didn't put me under either of the two times. I would prefer to be under, but that's not how my Dr. does it.

I only have one memory from the two times of the procedure: All I remember is someone asking me to change positions, like a 5 second memory.

It was more like: 'Ok, I'll roll to the side. WAIT! WHAT IS GOING ON DOWN...
And that was it.

At least it wasn't like this:

I'm on the 5 year plan (polyps), and have had 3 of them so far. It isn't just about cancer, there's polyps and other things that need to be checked and checked for. I don't do anesthesia - but not everybody can do without. I just lay on my left side and watch the monitor. My boss went in for his first, and tried without anesthesia, but he experienced too much pain so they had to go ahead and put him under.
There's different preps for it too. The first two times I had to drink some nasty stuff - 4 litres of it. The last time, it was just a couple of quarts and was a LOT nicer - not that it was nice, mind...

This prep looks to be powder? They put it in a giant plastic container and it only covers the bottom? I'm guessing you fill with water, stir and consume in a given amount of time. I start this evening right after work.

I would think the difference between anesthesia and not is being able to relax. I can tell you from previous history with an enema I can't relax when something is near my lower region.

Sounds like they gave you the Polyethylene Glycol 3350 which is the active ingredient in Miralax. It seems a lot GI's like it because it works very well and allows them good visualization. The down side is you have to drink that giant container of that nasty stuff. You probably won't want anything lemon flavored for a while. : ) I've used the SuPrep for my last one. I doesn't taste better, maybe even worse, but you do have to drink less of it. I still had to drink all the additional water to avoid dehydration. Trying to drink the water was harder than the prep solution. The fact that the PG 3350 mixes directly with all of the water you need may be another reason GI's favor it.

All the Endoscopy centers I've know and the hospital I worked in used Propofol. You won't remember a thing and will get the quickest nap of your life. I wish I could say your evening wasn't going to suck. It's really not that bad, though. The good news is you'll be done with it in the morning.

PEG-3350 is what I have for dinner tonight lol

I had my 2nd one done a week ago Monday. 1st one age 55 and this one age 65.
I used the PG 3350, powder in the jug. Not too bad and no feeling to rush to the toilet.
Walked in at 11:30am and walked out at 1:15pm.
I made a sandwich before we left home so I had something to eat right away because our favorite Taco truck wasn't going to be open for a few more hours.

A side affect of one of my more significant proddings was an ammo purchase on painkillers.

Which now was a great buy. At the time it was more of a surprise. My wife hid my cards after that.

Honey! No recolection at all of ordering a Currie 60 front, full float with an ARB. It's custom order apparently, so I can't return it.

I'm on the 5 year plan (polyps), and have had 3 of them so far.

I've had so many I couldn't tell you how many. I have my next one in February, that will be six months after my last one. I had 25 polyps removed last time.

When I had my first colonoscopy (December 1999) the Doctor said I would never make it as a gay man. I told him I wasn't planning on being one. If he said that to someone today I'm sure he would lose his license.

Since I have IBS I'm in pain for a few days after having a colonoscopy, they not sure why IBS causes that to happen.

I tell everyone that I can't go under, I stop breathing I can be drugged to a point (twilight) but not put under. I use a CPAP every night. Just about everytime I have a colonoscopy I wake up with someone shaking me. Then they tell me oh we had to shake you the whole time because you stopped breathing.

What did I tell you? Oh well we thought. Doctors think they know your body better than you do.

My dad has the opposite issue...they have to give him extra or mix it with something to get him under enough. He got a pacemaker a few weeks ago and like you said, they didn't listen and he was wide awake and anxious during the procedure, so they hit him with so much Dilaudid he was out of it for close to 12 hours. My mom was frraking out thinking he'd had a stroke.

Between that, and calling him in 2 hours early to fill a cancellation only to end up 2 hours later than his original appointment, plus a nurse coming out and telling my mom he was in recovery when they were still prepping him, they're not going back to that facility. And that was before the electrophysiologist kept trying to schedule him for an AV node ablation that his cardiologist says he doesn't need.

When given a choice, I always choose a female, with the main reason being smaller hands and fingers. If they have to get in there for some reason, I want small fingers. ;) I chose my dentist the same way.

I haven't actually had to get one (I'm 40) but I'll make sure to remember that when the time comes.

I did actually look for a female urologist when I thought I might need a prostate check but couldn't really find any in the area that treated men. Maybe I'll have better luck with the gastroenterologist. 🤣

A man did my vasectomy but the way I knew the Valium was working was when his attractive young assistant wiped me down with an alcohol swab and I wasn't the slightest bit concerned about it.
