I had something similar happen to me as a kid when I decided to pet wild horses in GA. Long story short, I got punted by the stallion, then evac'd, then spent the next 2 days in ICU, 2 weeks in a wheelchair, then another month or two with various cast. I'm a little iffy around horses and similar animals now and will not get near their ass end. I also got a little local new paper article written about me because of the event basically telling others to not be a dumbass like me. :sneaky:

A horse is 2,000 lbs of flesh and bone controlled by a brain the size of a walnut. Do the math...

We raised bulls and had some horses. We were moving the bulls between pastures once and I had a stick I was carrying, I was under 10.

My sister told me to poke the bull in the balls with the stick, she was 6 years older.

I took a hoof to the chest and got the wind knocked out of me and the accompanying bruises. Luckily the stick wasn't shorter or I could have been killed.

I won't get close to kicking range of large cattle or horses now. Annoys me whenever I see my daughter do it.

Powerful animals that can do some damage. I definitely won't fuck with them anymore. I was told later on that the Drs more or less expected me to die that first day/night. Apparently a young girl had been kicked in a similar incident on a farm just a day or two before me, but she died from internal bleeding. :(

That reminded me of a time one of my cousins got charged by a bull. My cousin was on a 4-wheeler and the bull headbutted the front rack once, which destroyed it and flipped the 4-wheeler. My cousin took off under the fence. He ain't no bullfighter.

I was used to working with the bulls, really didn't bother me to push around 1500 lb animals.

With regard to the 4 wheeler, I was hit by a deer once while riding down the road. Had deer hair stuck between the tire and the wheel. didn't go over though.

My kids aren't old enough for horses yet. I've learned that one of the hardest thing to do as a father is try to convey knowledge from my hard lessons, and having to let them learn lessons on their own. I hope your daughter learns the easy way. I'm not ready for my kids to want to start riding, but I'm sure they will at some point, and I'll try to not hyperventilate at that point. :sneaky:

I was used to being around and riding horses as a kid. I never messed with bulls and cows, especially after seeing the 4-wheeler incident. Like you, I know things now, like stay back.

Kinda off track here, but one of the scariest things I have ever done was getting back on a horse after my ass whoopin. I still had a cast on, and my oldest sister more or less made me get on her horse. Fucking terrifying ordeal that probably took 30 minutes. I'm glad she did because I'm not terrified of them now.

Met a gentleman today who had some interesting yard art going on in his front yard. The clock is from 1910. He rebuilt it about five years ago, and installed it in front of his house. And yes, it works (all four clock faces are functioning). I didn't get any info on the shrub-car, however. I only know that he did that, as well.

For the shutterbugs among us:

I've had a Sigma EX 17-35 F/2.8-4 that I took a hell of a lot of pix in Greece and elsewhere using my Minolta film camera. When I went to Sony digital, that became a 25.5-52.5 due to the APS conversion factor. I still use that lens more than any other, but there were times I really missed the wider angle. Sony's full frame cameras would be a wonderful option, but are VERY expen$ive!

Wide angle is baaaa-aaaaack! Found a "like new" Sony 11-18 F/3.5-4.5 which translates to 16.5-27. Slightly slower than the Sigma, but it has the newer "D" connection which tells the camera where its focused so there's that. After a $50 bribe from PayPal to open a credit line with them, I only paid $77.33 for it! Bought it from an outfit I'd never heard of before, MPB.COM - got great service and can't complain about the price or condition.

Test pix - this was with the Sigma at 17, wife walked into the picture just as I hit the button:

So I left her there when I took this one with the Sony at 11:

Un-mounted Sigma in foreground with the Sony on one of my A200s in the back. Pretty much the same physical size, although the Sigma takes a 82mm filter as opposed to only 77 for the Sony - no doubt because the Sony is APS sensor only.

Looks like I'm not the only Redneck in the neighborhood anymore... I'm really not sure what to think of this trailer other than it's really redneckish..

Might have to try to meet my new neighbors and then see if I can see the inside of it.

I don't see the point - maybe it was in a very high altitude at one time?
