NASA and Lockheed Martin formally debuted the agency’s X-59 quiet supersonic aircraft Friday. Using this one-of-a-kind experimental airplane, NASA aims to gather data that could revolutionize air travel, paving the way for a new generation of commercial aircraft that can travel faster than the speed of sound.

“This is a major accomplishment made possible only through the hard work and ingenuity from NASA and the entire X-59 team,” said NASA Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy. “In just a few short years we’ve gone from an ambitious concept to reality. NASA’s X-59 will help change the way we travel, bringing us closer together in much less time.”

Melroy and other senior officials revealed the aircraft during a ceremony hosted by prime contractor Lockheed Martin Skunk Works at its Palmdale, California facility.

I didn't feel like this was worth starting a new thread, but it's certainly strange.

Anybody want to drop $260,000 on a Challenger? Some people have more money than brains. Sure, they're fast. But a quarter million dollars can buy (or build) a lot of things that are faster and ultimately better drivers.

Right? I'm not much into the fast car scene (I'm decently up to speed but prefer trucks/off-road all day long), and I love American vehicles, but I would never spend that much on a Challenger. I mean even the upcoming C8 ZR1 is expected to have an MSRP around $150,000. That's $110,000 buffer for options and markup.

But then again, I'd probably just put that $260,000 towards my house and be happy with the vehicles I have! lol I could do a lot without a mortgage payment!

This reminded me of this picture I took at Palouse Falls in 2019.

There are some beautiful places in the PNW... Too bad other parts of it aren't as good. Part of why I moved back here when I could have gone other places after the Army.

I've said that many times! I'm a transplant (since 2011) so it's sad to see such a beautiful state (and country 😬) wrecked by urbanization and people.

I lived here as a kid in the 60's and then as a teenager in the 70's before I joined the Army. Only got stationed at Ft Lewis in the 80's for 11 months. But kept coming back. It wasn't a bad place even up into the early 2000's but after that it's just gone downhill. And seeing it slowly happen has just made it worse. I started wheeling here in the mid 90's and the trails we've lost plus how they've been ruined makes me cry.
