New Truck Discussion

For instance, I have an F350 and the only difference between the same model F250 is the rating sticker and badges that say F250 vs F350. Zero mechanical difference.
I have a F350 also, and I was told the spring rates were higher for the F350 vs F250. Brakes, axles and everything else are the same.

What’s the hitch rated for on the gladiator, without weight distribution?

On the F150 I had a gross trailer weight over 5k required weight distribution.

Recommended when trailer exceeds 2,000 lbs. It's not actually on the payload/tow chart.

It's for sure something I'll be getting when I pick up a trailer of my own.

All depends on the spec and it depends on what’s being pulled.

For instance your gladiator has a payload of like 1100 lbs.

Your Jeep may weigh 4500 lbs so 10% is 450 lbs is typical tongue weight.

A uhaul trailer is about 2k so add another 200 lbs in tongue weight.

I see a rooftop tent, no idea what it weighs but let’s say 200 lbs.

So we are at 850 lbs of your 1100 lb payload with no passengers or other gear.

Hopefully you are skinny.

Pretty much nailed the numbers. (y)

100%

Depends on the model. On the Tremor model, they are identical if equipped the same.

Interesting Ryan. Every other 250 / 350 I’ve looked at the only differnce is the rear springs - resulting in higher towing and load ratings For the 350. Any idea why it’s different for the Trimmer?

Tremors also don’t come with rear sway bars as they are meant for more off-road use. May have something to do with that. Don’t know for certain though.

Frame is most likely beefier also.

Good to see you're able to tow your Jeep on a trailer with the JT Diesel. I posted on the RAM forum and someone there is saying that I shouldn't be able to tow my Jeep on a trailer even with the RAM 5.7 V8 even if I got the 3.92 gears, which is a bit discouraging.

I guess I remember a time when people used their heads , and drove accordingly .

I haven’t looked at the new truck frames but I know when I worked for Ford the frame on the 350’s had additional gussets and such, I don’t know about now may be cheaper to build on vs 2 frames

Did you work for them on the 2004 F150’s?

In 2004 Ford had quite a few built Ford tough commercials showing how strong (stiff) the frames were. But if you compared later models to the 2004 they removed a lot of the gussets.

This is all according to a friend of mine who was in body work at the time. Your post reminded me of this.

https://www.clickondetroit.com/news...ecalls-323k-pickups-for-tailgate-malfunction/

DETROIT – General Motors is recalling more than 323,000 heavy-duty pickup trucks in the U.S. because the electronic tailgate release switches can short circuit and open the gates while the vehicles are in park.

The recall covers certain Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 trucks from the 2020 through 2024 model years.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says in documents posted on its website Tuesday that water can get into the switches and cause the tailgates to open when in park gear. The agency says that can result in unsecured cargo falling out of the beds, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

GM is advising owners to check that the tailgate is closed and latched before they drive the trucks. Dealers will replace an exterior touchpad switch. Owners are to be notified by letter starting March 18.

GM dealers also have been told to stop selling affected vehicles until repairs are made.

The company says in documents that it has 136 complaints about the tailgates opening unexpectedly. GM reported one complaint of a minor injury and three complaints of minor property damage.
