Anybody up for a random meme dump?

Had coworkers over from one of our Norwegian facilities once and they were explaining about how there are more Norwegian people in Minnesota than there are in Norway. I'm an unfortunate transplant so I'll take him at his word since Norwegian's know everything.

That's pretty funny! If I'm remembering your post history, you are a transplant from the south border. I was a transplant from the east border. What I found with the Skandahoovians was similar to your experience ("...Norwegian's know everything"). I found that they are very self-reliant, generally smart, and tough, which can manifest as "knowing everything," but they'll also go way out of their way to help a stranger in need. I enjoyed my time in Roseau. Great place with great people. My wife, however, even though she was also a transplant from the east border, despised that place. "Too cold and too remote," she says.

You're correct on where I came from.

The problem with Minnesota nice is that it's all passive aggressive. Especially in the cities. When we lived out in the small town away from the city I could be out working on something in the driveway and a neighbor would show up with a cold beer and see if they could help out.

In the cities you could be trapped under whatever it is and you'd be lucky if they'd dial 911 and you'd be real lucky if they actually tried to help you. But, when they have a problem that they need help with they will not hesitate to ask. There are some that break the mold but most end up being transplants too.

The heritage is slipping away though and the cities are changing, not for the better.
