Howdy, first time posting here. I saw a pretty good deal on a roll n jack through Facebook and was wondering if anyone has given them a shot with an Lj. I know they have adapters for a regular tj but I was wondering if it’s worth risking the money to give it a shot with the longer top.

It’s a jack system for a hardtop, think it was a big kickstarter thing a while back.

I have had my LJ top off many times. I remove it by myself. The majority of the weight is in the rear. A JK top without the front panels is about 68" and an LJ top is about 80". I doubt the weight of the extra 12" would cause any issue. The LJ top is significantly heavier, however. Jku aprox. 90lbs vs LJ 199lbs. The company doesn't list a weight capacity but does not recommend lifting tops with additional weight like roof racks. I don't think I would trust it with something as expensive as an LJ top. Roof hoists are cheap and effective if you have the room. If you need something less permanent and movable I use a rolling scaffold that I just slide mine on to.

The rolling scaffold sounds like a good plan, are you able to get it to the height you need pretty exactly, and what lift are you running?

I've used it with a 2.5 suspension and 1" body lift and a 4" suspension and 1 inch body lift combo. It's still a bit awkward but not to bad. I just climb in the rear and brace my back against the top. I just move it a couple inches at a time until the rear is on the scaffold. Then it's easy to slide back. It sits high enough I can still park in the garage.

I’ll definitely look into it, I think the only issue I may run into is the barricade tire carrier I’m running. I’ve also been looking into this method I just need to price out the lumber.

I rigged up a top lift with a harbor freight 120V, 440 lb. hoist, some cable fittings, unistrut (Superstrut or Adamax) for the lifting frame, a couple spare lengths of 2x10 that was hanging around, and miscellaneous hardware. My top hangs nicely in the garage from March to November. It could probably be replicated for around $200.

I simply open the tailgate, unbolt my hardtop, climb up into the bed, use the guns to lift the hardtop up over my head, turn, and jump out of the bed…

🤔

Oh crap, that was 40 years ago. DAMMIT!

(Hardtops was lighter then…🙂)

Exactly what I used to do with my full top on my '83 Scrambler - almost 40 years ago!

How many days off and trips to a chiropractor would that require today? 🤔 I think I’d at least have to sit on the ground and think about life choices for a minute after doing that.

Very interested in this. I tried lifting my top and its just too damned heavy. Is this the scaffold you are using? I was planning to build a wooden table to slide it on but this saves me time.

That's the one I use. I picked mine at HomeDepot but the Amazon one looks to be identical.
