Hi all, hoping to get some direction.

Symptoms
With engine running, clutch out, neutral - sounds like a worn out bearing that is turning
Same configuration but push clutch in - no bearing sound

If put in gear or change transfer case settings repeat clutch position above, get the same results.

Thinking: throw out bearing, carrier bearing in trans, or other bearing in t case?

If it sounds like a bucket of rocks, that could be the normal NV3550 sound. If it sounds like chirping, probably worn TOB.

My NV 3550 would do it at idle when I first got it. Was sorta scary. Sounded like a rock tumbler - a few fluid changes and it settled down- may be that oil viscosity plays a big part in the gears free rotation- i’m talking over my head on that one.
