Hey guys. Long time lurker first time caller. This forum has helped me so much throughout the rehab and slow rebuild of my tj, finally have a need to post instead of just research.

So I have 35” tires and a Dana 35 rear. 4.88 gears but still just waiting for the day it decides to explode on me. I’ve been In the market for a super35 upgrade for a while and this posting came up on my local OfferUp recently. I cannot find any information on the shafts or CCE kit. I do know all that it will take to swap the carrier out and reset the backlash. Not something I’m worried about. More wondering what kind of input anyone would have for me about the compatibility and really just overall opinion on if it’s a worthy purchase or should I just wait and buy a brand new kit. Thanks in advance

That is for a Dana 44 going by the axleshaft pics. Its wheel bearings are much different than your Dana 35.

Btw i would not get an autolocker like a detroit in the rear.

He mentioned c-clip eliminator, which on a Dana 35 the old c-clip eliminator kits swapped the axle shafts to using a tapered roller bearing like shown above. The kit included bolt on adapters to install onto the end of the axle tube to make the adaptation. I believe the c-clip eliminator kits could be had in either 27 or 30 spline.

Maybe it's in some of the other photos, but I don't see the adapters for the axle tubes. The kit isn't worth much if it's missing those.

Agreed on the locker, I wouldn't want a Detroit or lunchbox in the rear.

Yes macho is correct here. The c clip eliminator kit would allow me to run axles with this bearing setup. It allows for chromolys as well seeing as the shaft is supported and not riding the bearing the whole time. Did all this research when I stupidly bought 1541h 27 spline shafts 🤦🏼‍♂️ my issue is that I have searched high and low and cannot find this specific kit anywhere. So I don’t know what to check for I.e. seals, hardware, and such.

Out of curiosity why do you guys recommend against the auto locker in the back? I don’t do much snow/ice driving so just wondering.

Yep, i glazed over the cce part.

Because it will behave badly in a light, short wheelbase vehicle. Clicking banging and severely reduced turning radius

If I’m remembering right, @mrblaine designed the original Dana 35 c-clip eliminator for Superior. Then the other companies (Ten Factory, probably Alloy USA, Yukon, etc) copied that design. I believe it was all based on the SET10 standard which would mean you’d use the same seal and bearing that the TJ Dana 44 use. Meaning something like a BR10 bearing and the Dana seal or Timken 9912S or similar. Blaine could probably confirm that.

I changed my location to see the listing. It doesn’t appear to have the adapter blocks that bolt onto the tubes. You need those. The tube end is made for the roller bearing and hammer-in seal. The CCE should feature I think 5/8” thick adapters and then the shafts are 5/8” longer to make up for it…..

I wouldn’t want that locker because of quirky behaviors behind a manual. I’d want selectable, but nothing says you can’t run it anyways or sell it and get something else.

I wouldn’t argue with anyone over it, but I would “personally” never get an autolocker like that on my Jeep again.

It clicked non stop, we have Round abouts in our neighborhood, and I had to 100% coast if I didn’t want clicking, and it was pretty loud.

Not a biggie, I just wouldn’t choose it. If I was putting one in, I’d get selectable e locker.

My current setup has the traclok rear carrier in it. I know the locker is quite a step up from that but realistically would it affect driving style that much. I’m not really a fast or aggressive driver

Fantastic response. This is exactly what I was curious about. Thank you. Going off all the feedback I think I’ll just hold off and get the super 35 c clip Eaton e locker setup I’ve been looking at.

Thanks for all the help everyone 🤘🏻

You are correct. A point of interest is that can't be used with disc brakes if it is the Superior style. At the time, it was the only one that used a tapered roller bearing, others used a ball bearing set up that was encased in a mount that bolted to the housing end. Most for drag racing where they don't encounter high side loads seen while turning or going offroad

A bit longer actually. The 5/8" adapter ends were split and sandwiched the drum backing plate.

Well mrblaine I’m honored you showed up in my thread. Your information all over this forum is a constant help In my struggle to keep this tj on the road. So thank you for that.

What are your thoughts on the listing i posted? Incomplete kit? Same thoughts as most about the rear Detroit locker?

Im trying to go out wheeling more this year and moving forward. I am also getting married next week so dropping 1500+ on a super35 kit just isn’t really in the budget at this moment. I’m ok with dropping $550 just to keep me from exploding my rear diff and blocking trails this year. I have spare shafts but who wants to deal with that. So far I’ve had good luck, low and slow has worked, but I feel like I’m sitting on a ticking time bomb after reading other stories around here. Any and all input is welcome. If all else fails I’ll stick to baby trails for another year 🤷‍♂️

Without the eliminator parts, all you have is a bastard set of axles that won't fit anything except the Superior kit. Get some lengths on them and we can compare that to stock Dana 44 shafts, if they are longer than stock 44, they are probably for the CCE. As for the copies out there, I know nothing about them so getting the bits from them is suspect. See if the owner has pics of the housing end for you. The dead giveaway that it was a properly installed Superior kit is the 5 hole at the bottom.

I won't run a Detroit rear unless there is no other option readily available that I could afford. If I got a cheap one and that was my only way to go wheeling, then I would and just stay off of icy roads and off camber muddy trails.

Roger that. Appreciate the input everyone. Gonna save for new and take it easy this year.
