Where do I tap into the parking brake circuit on a 2000?

Hi all,

Going to be installing my new touchscreen soon and was wondering where the best spot to tap into the parking brake circuit is?

I actually don’t think I need it on this unit as the pin that is listed as parking brake (-) does not have a wire attached on the pig tail.

…but just in case I would like to find out where the best spot is.

I have a 2000 TJ.

Thanks in advance. 👍

Why are you tapping into it? I believe the wire runs along the inside of the console to the switch around the parking brake arm. You'll need to pull your shift boot and use the wiring diagram in the FSM supplied on the forum. A positap connector will do fine.

Also, for your stereo install, you don't need to make a bunch of new threads. You can reply to one of your older ones and it'll push it up in General Discussion for people to see.

What brand of radio are you installing? If it is anything but a Pioneer or Alpine, you can can put the parking brake wire into the ground and not having to worry about tapping into the parking brake wire. This will also allow you to use radio features that only work when you set the parking brake. It is actually on Pioneer and Alpine a set, unset, set that will engage features that require a parking brake signal.

Thank you. It’s an unbranded Chinese unit. As I said I’m not even sure if it needs it because there isn’t even a wire on the pigtail. I did however want to know where to tap into the parking brake circuit just in case.

As I suspected I did not need to tap into it at all. The head unit has the ability to disable this safety feature.

I've been following your stereo install with interest. Are you happy with the overall fit of the radio? From the picture, it seems there are some gaps and it's not a real 1.5 DIN size

Thanks.

I stopped posting updates because I got some shit from a few members about posting to much car stereo stuff. Once it’s all done I’ll post a full install guide.

…but to answer you question yes, I’m happy with the fit (In the picture above it’s just sitting in the dash opening). It is not a true 1.5 DIN so there will be a gap on the left and right side. I’m planning on using this gap to my advantage by fabricating a theft deterrent false front with tabs that slide into the gaps. The top to bottom fitment is near perfect.

For a $100 it’s a steal. The functionality is good but the steering wheel remote is a must.

I am shocked how good it sounds. I was thinking I would need a dedicated amp but the volume is as loud as I would want to go so now my plan is just to get a self powered subwoofer.

I haven’t attempted to hook up the reverse camera so I can’t offer an opinion there but everything else hooked up with ease.

Good to know. I've been toying with doing an upgrade but knowing this I will probably find a different brand. I want simple.
