Bearings going bad in the crankshaft. Shop recommending a remanufactured 2.5 engine for $5000

$5k gets you a long way towards an LS.

Pulling apart an engine and knocking in new bearings isn't terrible. Hardest part is the crankshaft bearings but you could have a machine shop deck the head and block and remove/install new bearings...clean up the can and crank too.

For clarification is that $5000 for the engine and installation. Do you have a picture of the quote you are willing to share? I am not so sure that is out line for a complete set-up.

Next question, what kind of miles are on your Jeep. How long have you owned it? What kind of condition would you say it was in. Asking these questions to evaluate if it’s worth spending 5k on your Jeep. Sometime the most economical decision is to sell a Jeep needing work, put your 5k on top of that and be actually in a better ride.
