Can move auto shifter without pushing the button

Pull the cover below the handle gently and see what broke on the lock out....that is likely where the issue is.

Pulled the cover off this morning I can't see anything that looked broke when it goes into drive doesn't look like it goes back far enough and reverse looks too far back the picture is it in reverse

I found something on how to adjust shift cables that seems to have fixed it I haven't had a tj in a while moved on to jk s and decided to go backwards just trying to fix the little things on the lj I just purchased

Every TJ I have had needs a dozen little things - sorry to be of no more help- figured it was in the interlock but don’t know much about them.

Some would say you went backwards when you went to a JK. You're just returning to where you should have stayed all along. 😉

Yes, the shift cable needs adjustment to fix that problem. Also, you went forward when you went to a LJ. Good call!
