My new TJ, take two...

View attachment 45813

All in all, looks like a solid buy. No major rust issues seem to be showing. One thing - if I were you, I'd fold that top down, and take a look at the header where the top attaches. It looks like it was thrown together in a big hurry, and maybe needs to be redone. It shouldn't be all wrinkled around the header like that. I know it's not a Bestop, but they have some good videos about attaching the top to the header, check them out.

Thanks for the advice. When washing yesterday I noticed water pooling over the driver/passenger seats, in that first section. Figured that probably isn’t by design. I will remove the top this weekend and tinker with it.

That looks like an aftermarket top, and not a Bestop, which is the mfg. of the oem top. Tops other than Bestop tend to be not as tight fitting, probably why water pools. You can buy a top arch bar, it attaches on each side of the roll bar over the front seats, and puts an arch in the top so water doesn't pool.

Thank you all again. So, I was able to drive the Jeep to work today. First item of concern is the temperature gauge. It very quickly jumps up to 210° and stays there. Seems a little hotter than it should be, given today was very overcast.

What should I be looking at/for? Or is this normal operating temp?

Thanks.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that might be right about the norm for these 4.0 motors. Seems like I've read that here on the forum, somewhere. It's about where mine sits when I've left it idling for up to twenty minutes (a non-driver project, at this point).

“Quickly jumps” is a subjective phrase. Mine warms up much quicker than any vehicle I’ve ever owned.

Thank you all. I can try and time how long it takes to get to temp tomorrow morning from cold and post it. It is much quicker than my other vehicles.

Great find! I found my TJ on eBay as well. I think it's a great option IF you're patient & can wait for the "right" vehicle to pop up. A lot also hinges on actually speaking with the seller to get TJ history, gauge honesty, etc. If those things check out, and you have really good tinterior and exterior photos, then you can score a pretty solid deal on a reliable vehicle.

That one is a bit better than the first one :D Looks good overall. A bit of rust to fix but the undercarriage is very clean. 44 in rear and 3.73 is a great bonus. The top looks loose and saggy, not sure why. Gotta find those leaks before you get a heavy rain. Nice job and welcome to the Jeep life. You know, where you are constantly spending money and modifying, and looking for bigger and better :D

A few more photos.

I look forward to your thoughts, feedback, and suggestions. This thread will serve as the build journal for the jeep; whatever I decide to do will be documented here. Thank you all again.

Buy a mig welding machine and learn how to weld sheet metal. That will come very handy.

White Jeeps with black accents just look soooooo good. As good as yellow with black.

Well done!

Thank you all!

Had the Jeep on the highway for the first time yesterday. 70mph was interesting. It ran well though. So far so good.

I am getting a little squeak from one of the brakes, so am considering an upgrade of rotors pads and maybe lines (after reading burst line post on other thread). Worth it or should I just do pads and rotors if needed?

Nice find stylo, I love my white 06, hope you have as great a time with it as I'm having with mine. You went thru some shit with the other one.
I am jealous though, you have stock cruise control, mine didn't :( I went with a Rostra, and it's okay, but prefer stock :)
