I keep dreaming about a 4x4 with independent motors at each wheel. The things you could do with suspension if you didn't need to keep driveshafts and u joints happy, or being able to select a torque distribution on the fly, specific for an obstacle.

A pipe dream, but a dream nonetheless. No manufacturer thinks highly enough of their customers to think they'd know how to use any of that. If it happens it'll probably be the radical custom build I help my kid with in 2040.

Yes they are. I've been watching them carefully. Of course, our "Benevolent OverLords" have things screwed up, but they're trying. Still - apparently you're still stuck with power door locks and maybe "keyless go", not sure. And damn near everyone other than me is whining about "no power windows", oh perish the thought...

Driving to dance class last week - was next to some gargantuan Kia SUV of some kind. Was trying to figure out what it was, when I noticed the door handles...

... Yep - they were "shaved", flush fitting things that I'm sure are electrically activated. That told me instantly that I was looking at an EV, as only EVs reach that level of stupidity.

Managed to drop in behind it, its called an "EV-9". Looked it up briefly online - the stupid door handles are "standard", oh joy. Never mind the stupid screens...

I'd MUCH rather drive that '14 "Knox" in the other thread than this stupidity. I'd gladly stop every 100 miles or so to re-oil the valve train, etc than to have to deal with the sheer idiocy of that Kia and its ilk.

style and patent trolling over substance and safety, some countries have already started banning hidden door handles.

too much money to be made on patenting over engineered door handles, car companies are already lobbying and working on new designs to "beat" regulations.

I prefer EV's to soulless and silent than generating fake noises regardless of it being optional, bugs me almost as much as invisible door handles

I hate the fake sounds also but if I had to guess the real reason behind the additional sound it's probably there to drown out the whining of the EV motor.

I can hear my wife's model Y when I accelerate aggressively. I could only imagine how loud the challenger's motor would whine.

There's some value in making some extra noise at parking lot speeds so that pedestrians are aware of an approaching vehicle behind them. Beyond that, I'd rather it not make any extra noise that isn't generated naturally. If the whine is obnoxious, then maybe some active noise canceling tech to cancel it out.

I'm increasingly fond of peace and quiet as I age.

Nah they are pretty much silent we have gotten so good at drowning out ICE noise that EV are more about hiding resonance and road n motor vibrations and also warning pedestrians too busy looking at their phones that there is 5 tonne lead battery on wheels coming towards them.

Yep, and yep. Just like Telco S&M departments have convinced the world that they can't live without a $1K+ device that does nothing well and they have to replace it every 2 or 3 years.

Doesn't work with me. I like "style", but the word "luxury" has me running for the hills! And that's a style that I don't like because its idiotic.
