Part of what always worries me about being young in this age of enshitification is that I don't really have the ability to make mistakes on product decisions because I don't have a fall back from a time before this philosophies prominence. I'm at square one, many things I buy are the first of that product I've bought. Anytime I have to purchase something where the price requires a second thought, I often pour in a lot of time researching it. The conclusion always comes out the same though, "If you choose product A it'll work fine but you have to deal with problem C. If you buy product B it'll also work fine but you have to deal with problem D." I get that nothing will be perfect, but when paying the prices we do these days for things like tools, parts, vehicles, phones, etc., you'd expect to not have to pick between the lesser of two evils so often. I can no longer buy anything and just rely on it being a trusted brand, which sucks.
