Tried to drill out the key lock cylinder and did some lovely damage to the door.

That didn’t work so just break the hardtop glass which is aftermarket and unobtanium requiring custom job.

All to steal some Harbor Freight Hercules tools? Oh, and leave the Milwaukee stuff! I’d give a thief $500 to go have all the fun they want before leaving me with this mess to figure out.

Granted, I told my son to sell the backseat and get a piece of ply and we would cut it to fit and cover it with carpet to cover the trunk area. 😒😬. I hate thieves.

My son’s rig. He and his wife saving for a home. Sucks living in apartment with just covered parking. He should have sold the back seat and built a ply cover. Would have been $$$ ahead.

They just had a baby.

If insurance won't cover it I think your cheapest option would be a soft top. Sucks about the tools, I hate thieves also. Edit to say, I have a hardtop with intact glass but the frame is cracked around the window, it's just sitting in my garage. PM me if you want to figure something out, it's not worth much to me.

His deductible is $2k. I was like, Geez man. Of course, he's 21yrs old trying to support wife and baby, so I get it. We tried to find a hard top. We found a passenger full door in correct color for $750, but then that requires a new key lock cylinder. I told him to get the glass replaced by a custom shop. He's going by today. They said they could probably do it because the glass is flat. I have a friend who owns a lock and key shop. We're going to order a new key lock cylinder and have my friend key the cylinder. Then sell the rig with the door damage. 😞 They need a minivan or something else anyway with the new baby.

Well that sucks. And yeah @macleanflood they do have it. 159 a side. Might be cheaper then your custom place @JMT

If only the hardtop was OEM. It's an aftermarket Smittybilt hardtop. We measured the quarter panel. The OEM is significantly smaller than the Smittybilt, and they no longer make the hardtop and there are no replacement windows. So, custom is only way to go.

I question his commitment to the Jeep. The Jeep was my only car from before my daughter was born until she was 6 - and I did drop off and pick up for all the years of preschool :).

I’ve got a bit of resolution so far. A glass business is going to replace the hardtop glass at $14 sq ft + labor. Said it would not take long and my son could just wait while they do it.

He bought a lock cylinder and is taking it to my locksmith buddy who is going to adjust it for his key.

Might get out of this for $300. Unfortunate thing is still the damage to the door.

Add $15 for a blanket to keep everything covered up so nobody knows what’s in there.

He just sent me some new pics after pulling the cylinder and working to straighten out the dents around the area. He's coming over Friday so we can paint. I think it looks quite a bit better than before.
