Stereo installation, what is this second wire bundle for?

So I'm ready to install my new Kenwood head unit and know that the longer wiring harness are the general speaker wires but I am wondering what this second wire bundle is for? I'm assuming the factory subwoofer? If so, how would I splice the wires in to my new wiring harness (I got the whole kit from crutchfield)?

Well it's definitely not to the sub, I just plugged in the longer connector only and it was working. I have no idea what that second set of wires is for.

Do your a favor and buy the wiring adapter for your jeep. They are cheap and you can get then at walmart.

I did get the harness and that part is pretty self explanatory but I can't figure this other wiring harness out.

I just traced it to a box below the dash on the driver's side. It's attached by a by a bracket right above the driver's feet. Here's a picture.

Ok if the harness you have doesn't hook to it. It "MIGHT" Be the wires for the factory 6 disk changer.

That Part #05064074AC comes up as a satellite radio receiver.

I had some similar confusion when I replaced my stereo, then I followed the wires and fished out the satellite receiver! My receiver was a little different in my 2005, not sure if it was a dealer or factory option, or what. Mine was wired to my antenna, and I guess you had to dial in to listen via an FM channel.

Edit: here is mine

@Kvarilek now it makes sense as your 65th Anniversary package likely came from the factory with CD player, 7 speaker sound system and Sirius Satellite Radio.
Glad you got it sorted.

Thanks, I completely spaced that off. I guess I was thinking the Sirius would have been built in to the head unit, but this was 2006 when it came out!

When I was digging around I found another mystery wire that I'm not a fan of. The connector is just kind of sitting in the fuse box in 16... It runs behind the dash and in to a wiring cluster on the driver's side, toward the driver's door.

Could that wire be from when the previous owner flat-towed it behind a motor home?

Maybe for an electronic supplemental braking system, or for connecting the Jeep's brake lights to the motor home :confundio1:

Ahh, that definitely could be it. I was told it was towed so that could very well be it. Great suggestion! Dang I'm glad I found this forum!
