Hi All,

After the knee replacement I have finally started working on my TJ again. Easy stuff. Started her twice after surgery and lo and behold Saturday the solenoid just clicked. Put on the charger and the voltage came up from 10 vDC to 12.2 vDC. Tried starting her and nada, zip zero! Lights and accessories were bueno. Lights dimmed when I tried the starter. Went and bought an Interstate. Have not installed it yet because I figured I would pull the rusty battery tray, clean it up and paint it. Will do that tomorrow. I found two things I have questions about. There is a round sensor or something like that that comes up under the battery tray and connects to a plug back near the fire wall. There is also a plastic box under the battery tray that looks like it has a vacuum hose attached to it. I have attached some pics. Wondering if someone could tell me what these are?
Thanks,
Lou

That sensor is the battery temperature sensor which tells the computer to slow down the charge rate from the alternator if the battery starts getting too hot.

The black square box is the vacuum reservoir which is a backup source of vacuum for the HVAC system for when the engine isn't running to provide vacuum. It also provides additional vacuum for when the engine isn't producing enough vacuum like when it's being revved hard/accelerated hard.

Thanks Jerry. Just had to change my battery Sunday and was wondering the same thing. Took your suggestion from another post I researched and went with the AGM battery you referenced. Thx

Jerry you are just a font of wisdom my friend. Thanks for the quick response.
