Hello,

I just wanted introduce myself to the forum. My name is Chris and I currently reside in California (SF bay area). My forum name is UpperMI which refers to the beautiful upper peninsula of Michigan where I was born and raised.

The jeep shown below is my second 2002 TJ. I owned a black X model from 02-08 but sold it when my oldest daughter was born. Now that I'm established, I was able to purchase a Patriot Blue Sport model to keep as a weekend cruiser. I look forward to reading up on everyone's rigs and gaining as much info as I can about my beloved jeep. I hope everyone has a great summer. Thanks

Chris

Bessemer.
I've caught a few walleys out of Lake Gogebic.

I know the "bread of life bakery" (good pasty) and of course Marty's Goldenaires for the 4th of July parade. Unfortunately I only make it back once a year in November for hunting season.

My son worked at the Bread of Life when he was in high school. They make the best bread in town, and really good pizza and pasty.
Marty's is practicing for the 4th of July parade already. I can hear them from my house over a mile away.
Deer hunting hasn't been so good the last few years.

Hits all my favorited. Blue, halfdoors, Sport. Looks awesome. And STOCK !!!

Thanks. It took me a long time to find it. Finding a stock TJ with half doors that wasn't abused proved to be quite difficult. The real kicker is that it has 42,000 original miles.

Yeah, last deer season was awful. But truthfully I wasn't that disappointed, I really enjoy the quiet time in the woods.

Very nice TJ...what do you have for suspension, and what size Duratracs?

Thanks. Stock suspension. The duratracs are 245/75/R16 (equivalent to 31"s).
Thanks for the info. I had that size Goodyear MT/R (original Rubicon tires) when I got my Rubicon recently. They were way too noisy for my taste. When I replaced them, I got 265/75-16 tires, since I had put on a 1.75" spacer lift. I wish I had gotten Duratracs, always wanted a set. What do you think of those tires after having driven on them for a while?

The duratracs are great tires. Aggressive enough for what I do (more overland type trail riding) and for bombing around town. I also drive it to work and back one day a week. For such an aggressive looking tread the tires are surprisingly quiet.

If I can find a buyer for my current set, I will seriously consider getting some Duratracs. Thanks!

Oh, and according to Chris (the site owner) he thinks the duratracs are the best tire for a TJ. I've owned bf Goodrich KOs before and I thought they were pretty good tires as well for an all terrain tire. I had them on an old Chevy pickup I had many years ago. So I tend to think those two tires cover the widest range of driving that I do.

Best is a relative word :D

The Duratracs are amazing so far. I've put 15k miles on them roughly through snow, dirt, mud, gravel, crap tons of rain and long highway drives.

So far I can't find a single complaint about them. They look awesome and perform awesome for what I use my Jeep for!

What did you end up buying to replace the MT/R?
I did not buy tires, exactly. A used vehicle lot here in Abq. deals in a lot of Jeeps, 12 - 20 on their lot at all times. The manager and I have struck up a friendship over the years, and he traded me a set of 5 new tires for the cargo rack & chrome nerf bars that came on the Rubicon when I bought it; they are some truck tires from Pep Boys, that while being ok, just aren't very aggressive looking:

I might see if Pep Boys will take them in trade for a set of Duratracs.
