I have a 2002 TJ Sport with 4.0L w/ Automatic Trans.
Just recently, I have an electrical problem that I cannot solve. Let me clarify everything before listing the issue.
All electrical components have been checked:
  • All the bulbs have been check and are in working order.
  • All electrical contacts / connectors for the bulbs have been cleaned.
  • All ground fasteners have been cleaned
  • All fuses are good.
  • None of the bulbs have been replaced with LEDs.
  • The turn signal relay is good.
  • The multi (combination) switch was replaced and did not solve the problem.
The issues:
  • The front passenger marker/running lamps are not working (both front fender and wheel lip molding (fender flare) are out).
  • The front passenger turning lamps are blinking fast, as if there is a bad bulb. But they are dim.
  • The passenger side headlamp is dim.
  • The right turn indicator on the instrument cluster is illuminated when the headlamps are turned on.
  • The all signal lamps work correctly when switch is turned on. They flash at the correct rate and intensity.

Your dim passenger headlamp and illuminated indicator make it sound like you have a short somewhere in the front lighting circuit. The full manuals are located in the TJ Resources forum, to include the full electrical diagrams. I clipped the lighting section from your manual and looked through it... Connector C110 is the only connector that I see in common between the right headlamp circuit and the indicator circuit, so that would be a good place to start.

I appreciate all the information. I was able to pin point all the affected circuits. I found that the ground wire at the eyelet was barely making connection for the headlamp. The turn lamps were a different story as I found the a short through the fog lamp circuit which was making a floating ground though the turn lamp. Ran a new isolated circuit to the fog lamps along with a new ground wire and everything is back to normal. Funny thing is there was no evidence of corrosion or damage to the wires. Thanks you very much.

did your short solve the issue with the "right turn indicator on the instrument cluster is illuminated when the headlamps are turned on." I have the same issue- only when the headlights are on, and the warning "dinging" occurs as though I have a turn signal on. I have a 2002 TJ....

Any thoughts are appreciated- I have replaced the turn signal assembly and the Light COntrol module to no avail...
