Hey all. I asked for pics of the underside of this 2005, the mom and pop video sent me this video clip, not the greatest clip but the greatest of rust spotters on here may be able to let me know what’s up with it.

How much are they asking? It doesn't look great but also doesn't look horrible for a rust belt jeep. Judging from the video it looks like the frame could be wire wheeled and treated. The tub is more concerning since it looks like it ate through under the tailgate hinge.

It would need to be a smoking deal to get me out to look at it.

Good lord... I wouldn't touch that thing with a 35 foot pole. That thing has rot all over it.

Not terrible, not great. The driver's side frame under the skid plate looks very questionable; the passenger side looks better. Feel around inside those drain holes, then maybe see if the nuts spin. Floor pans may need some TLC. As far as rust belt Jeeps go, it's not bad.

What's your goal with this? just a year round daily driver? Trail beater? If so it's not TOO bad. But if you're looking for a clean TJ to keep for a long time, this one needs ALOT of work. Just from that clip I can see:

Frame is very rotted along center skid mounts on both sides. The inside will be worse.
Inner side of driver torque box is rotten, but body mounts themselves look decent.
Passenger floor pan is rotten.
Gas tank shield looks rough.
That rust spot under the tailgate hinge means the rear boxed cross member is totally rotted inside.
Engine oil pan will need replacing, can see the sheet metal rusting and flaking off.
There is alot of random rust spots all over including the front towers, underside of the fenders, I'd bet the bottom of the roll bar mounts in the tub are rotten as well.

It's your call, depending on what you want out of it. If you want to keep it for a long time I'd pass unless you want to do a frame swap and a ton of sheet metal rust repairs.

You should put a warning on that video for people prone to motion sickness. Good Lord, that was hard to watch! o_O ;)

Thanks for all the info! I’m looking for a daily driver/beater for a few years, it really is a shame these TJ’s rust so easy. If I could get this one for more like 5 grand I would be more tempted. The search continues I guess. Thanks again everyone!
