Hi and I noticed a new clicking / tapping while I was checking fluids this week while steering wheel is centered and not being moved. It is not heard from within the cab area so not too loud and click occurs once every few seconds like clockwork. I traced to the power steering pump and confirmed this by placing my hand on other pieces within the engine
area and felt very prevelent with the pump. I also checked the Steering box but no ticking felt. Even turning the wheel in ether direction has no change and no other noise when in full lock position —- very odd and don't recall this being the case before so does others 2003-2006 click??
I've searched internet and most all outline noises when full locked which is not my case. I also flushed the fluid including steering box which didn't help.
Maybe nothing and seems to work fine otherwise.
Thanks

I think something happened while you were typing.👎 Hixebf is an odd word to end on. I'm sending this so you will look for a reply and correct the post.👍

Could be as simple as a pressure relief valve opening and closing. I'm not up on the TJ pump assy, but several other have a relief valve built into the system to keep easy steering when needed. I don't see this normally on a car or truck, so hopefully one of the gurus will chime in. Either way, if you have no other issues with the steering hydraulics I would just keep an eye on it, but not worry too much.

Thanks for feedback. I just don't recall my current 2003 or my old 2002 doing it but possibly I just never noticed it. Just getting ready next month to go wheeling in back country and don't want any issues.

I hate noises in my vehicles so I finally got tired of the clicking and replaced the pump and good opportunity to replace the fluids too.
Anyway before doing it, I took a video that u can hear at 1, 8, 15 second mark and I can feel it strongly when touching the pump but nowhere else. I just can't image what would be turning that slow compared to the engine rpm driving the pump.
Replacing it resolved the issue but the mystery remains and now I have something else to add to my spare parts colection. —- I find I keep humming one piece at a time by Jonny Cash.
