I just bought a 2006 Wrangler X. My shifter is also striking. I'm new to all this Jeep stuff so what is a tummy tuck.

It's quite the involved process that raises the transfer case skid up to increase ground clearance at the middle of the vehicle. It can require adjustable control arms, slip yoke eliminator, and new driveshaft in addition to the body/ motor mount lift.

A machine shop could cut the stick off and weld on a new one that's longer and doesn't hit anything. Mine doesn't have a body lift and I think the stick is already on the short side. If I ever lift the body, I'd need it extended so I wouldn't have to lean over to reach it.

Two to 3 inches taller and a 1/2 to 1 inch to the left would be more comfortable for me.

they do sell shifter extensions but I don't see how lifting or making it higher would make the difference because of pivot points the same

The transmission is hooked to the frame via the transfer case. The seat is hooked to the Jeep body. A body lift would change the stick height coming through the floor, in relation to the driver by however much the body is raised.

The body lift is why the stick is hitting now. The angled part of the stick isn't steep enough for the new body height.

One way to address this issue; remove the boot, and go through a shifting cycle, use a box cutter to whittle away the plastic areas of contact.

Great option. I guess as long as it's not doing any shifting damage it's just a noise. Is that correct. More of a nuisance.

I have a 2006 with the same boot and had a similar problem.

When I did my LS swap I ran into a similar issue as my trans moved forward 2". I had to get creative with my shifter bends AND notch the top plastic of the shift bezel to clear in 1st/3rd/5th. It does not hit anything now. I had to heat up the rod realllly hot and then bend in vice.

I also replaced my shift boot as mine
was torn to shit and was like a 2nd heat vent from my headers. Once I replaced the boot, no more heat. I even had to stretch it a bit to get my shifter rod in, as everything moved forward 2". The last pic shows the plastic I cut out of the bezel,if you zoom in.

I know yours isn't a swap, just an example of what I did to remedy the problem.

I did notice on mine that the inner shift boot is missing so the previous owner must have taken out totally

I don't notice any error at all even though my exterior boot has a small hole. Could be because up here in the Northwest we've got rain and cold now. And by the way, I cannot find an external boot for 2006. Either run through 2005 skips 2006 and goes a 2007.

Thanks much I'll check that side out too. I bought this Jeep just for a toy... It was too hard taking my Volvo XC90 up on the logging roads. Even though the auto steer would have been fun. Lol

You will like the jeep much better. As long as your heat works and you can shift 😂
