Hey all, after getting my head gasket the Jeep has decided to troll me again. I got a p0442 code a few days ago and today popped up the p0455 code, major evap leak. I’ve always gotten the p0442 code and it’s gone away on its own, but never the p0455 code.

The Jeep also hesitated a little at a light and then again in my driveway. Putting it in park remedied the stumble, but when I put it back in drive again it started stumbling pretty bad, almost to stalling out. I restarted the Jeep pretty much right after to show my pops the stumble, but the Jeep wouldn’t do it again. No misfire code.

I did do my fuel pump about 2-3 weeks before getting the head gasket changed, but the codes didn’t pop up until after the head gasket, and I had put about 100-150 miles on it in between then.
Should I bring it back to the mechanic who did it? I do owe him $300 of the $700, and if he wants the rest I’d expect him to at least take a look at it.

Well, you can check the lines that run from the purge valve toward the rear of the Jeep incase one got messed up during the head gasket work. Also, the purge valve may be leaking vacuum, which can cause the stumbling and what not as the engine would have a vacuum leak.

I’ll take a look tomorrow, worse comes to worst I’ll just bring it to him and have him check it out. I was able to replicate it after the Jeep was driving for awhile, but it was very light hesitation.

The last time my 2001 Sport sent the codes p0442 and p0455 it turned out to be a dry-rotted rubber elbow coming out of the charcoal canister located in the engine bay.

I was giving the PO a place to start since the codes came up after some head work, but I hade the same issue, fixed it with tape and silicon until I could find another hose. I never had any hesitation or anything engine related when that happened.
I had the same thing like this...
