So my passenger side full door would not open so I took it apart. I found that the clip that hold the threaded rod from the door handle broke. There is nothing else wrong with it not even rust. I looked to buy a new latch and they want like $90 for it. That is crazy when just a clip broke. looks like a poor design. Anyway to fix it without replacing the whole latch?

You could try Davey's Jeeps for a used assembly for parts, bound ti be a lot cheaper.

Not exactly which part you're referring to, but I bought a bag with an assortment of universal plastic clip and rod holder pieces for door locks at the local Autozone. I found one in the bag that matched the broken one from my half door.

On mine one of the ears broke. I took some copper wire and made a few wraps around the rod and what remained of the clip. A pair of hemostats came in handy.
If you wanted to drill out the rivet and use a tie-wrap, can't see why that would not work

I've got this issue. the clip is bent a bit and a bent it back but it gets messed up again after about a week or so of use and looses grip of rod. Will try some wire.

Let me follow up in this thread because I'm having a similar issue.

Symptom: My threaded rod won't stay in the black clip BigWheel88 identifies in the picture above.

Question: Could this be because I'm not clipping it in the right place on the rod? I've tried it at all different lengths on the rod, and the first or second time I activate the external door latch the rod pops out of the bottom of the clip.

Is the fix just to replace the lock mechanism, or could I have done something wrong installing the clip? Here are some pics of what I'm describing:

Then, I pull the exterior door handle and:

It would be great if I could avoid replacing the latch mechanism.

I "fixed" mine by unclipping the orange plastic thing from the non threaded rod and left it like in your first picture. (yours is purple). I'm pretty sure it was that one anyway.

I noticed when trying to figure out when looking in the door where is the best place on threaded rod to attach the clip which i thought was the issue. Opening the door handle is when eventually the metal clip would pop off and i did that multiple times trying to view where things looked to be binding weird. The fabric covered rod was bending oddly when trying to push its hinge. The orange/purple clip seemed to be the thing binding the hinge because it seem like it would not allow the rod it was attached to, to move freely. Anyway I know nothing about mechanics but since I left that plastic piece unclipped I have had no issues since.
