Questions for anyone with a Bestop Supertop NX soft top

Hey guys, I've completely given up on finding any kind of colored or heavy quality top from Bestop, they just really don't care about anyone who drives an LJ. The only top they have for the LJ is the supertop nx. I called them and they told me the material itself was thinner and less durable than what came stock.

My question is, is there anyone here on this forum that has a Bestop supertop nx on their jeep? I'm really wanting to know how thick the material is and how it holds up. And also how loud it is when driving on the highway.

Any help would be awesome, I'm wanting a soft top, but since the guy on the phone told me that they are not as good as factory, I really don't want to order one without hearing what people who have them think about them.

I have one on myLJ. I dont really know how to say how loud it is. It’s louder than the aftermarket hardtop that was on it when I purchased it. I’ve driven it many hours on the interstate and it’s not horrible. Sometimes conversations are a little harder. My wife says I talk low anyway.
Overall, I’m happy with it.

I thought mine was extremely nice. Much louder than a hard top. But quality seemed great. Although I have nothing to compare it to because I never owned a OEM one.

Kind of a moot point really isn’t it? Since it is the highest quality of the available options.

I have one on mine too, but I don't know how thick it is?? I do have to say that this is my first TJ and the top that was on it when I bought in Jan, was trashed. I went with the Bestop Supertop NX because of how people rave about Bestop.

I have only had it on for one winter and now one summer. So far it is holding up fine. I did lose one of the pins that releases the top so it can fold all the way back, but Bestop Customer service was awesome and sent me a new pin. They even sent me one for the other side too, didn't need it but I thought it was nice.

I do love the sunroof portion of the top. I also love that I can either have it folded a little or a lot. It sure makes driving in "in-between" weather nice. Meaning, when it's to cold to start out in the morning with the roof open, no biggie. In the afternoon it warms up and it is nice to be able to just open the sunroof. :D

As far as noise. I can't really determine how noisy it is because of it being my first TJ. I can say it is louder then my Miata with a soft top but those are totally different vehicles then TJ's. LOL I don't remember since last winter if hubby and I had any issues talking to each other with it on or not. I have had the windows out since spring. I just put the windows all back in it, so next time I go for a drive with the hubs, I will have to try to see if we have any issues. :D

Thanks for the input, I really got turned off from buying the top when I talked to them on the phone. In the emails and on the phone call, they very clearly have no intention on making LJ owners happy. It's extremely disappointing.
But yea, @Midnight LJR , it is a moot point since it's the only top available, but I just wanted to know if it was a complete waste of money based on my phone conversation with them today.
They said they don't make the good tops for LJ's because there's not enough demand for them, but everything that fits LJ is currently on back order right now. That seems like there's a demand to me, but maybe I'm crazy.

I’d find the best top I could , clean it like crazy and get spice Mar Hyde and paint it possibly .

Hey @Andy G ! Yea, it looks like the best top that's available is that bestop supertop nx. I don't even care about the color anymore. Lol
It just kills me knowing that they can make me a top that I really want, but they won't because I drive an LJ. Hell, I should have bought a TJ I guess. Lol

Hey-I know this is an older thread, but wanted to see if you purchased the Supertop and how you like it. Have an 05, replacing the top and messaged Bestop with your same issues-no sailcloth for the ST. Don’t really want to spend the extra $ to go twill either....thanks!

Hey Chrmer30,
I really wanted a TWILL supertop nx for my jeep more than anything else in the world, but bestop just absolutely refuses to offer the twill material for the LJ. It absolutely kills me! They have the material, the machines, and the pattern, but they won't make it because they say that " There weren't that many LJs made, so there's no demand for it ". That's complete and total B.S.! Everytime I look on their web site, LJ tops always sell out quick, and I'm sure I'm not the only LJ owner who would pay more for the upgraded twill material.
But anyway, I digress.

I contacted bestop several times, and they told me that their regular material that they use for LJ'S is not as thick or as heavy as what came stock from Mopar, so I found a brand new stock Mopar soft top kit from a Jeep dealership in VA. I still have the soft top kit in the box in my garage, I haven't installed it on the Jeep, so I can't give any kind of review on it, and since I didn't buy the bestop, I can't compare the two.

So, long story short, (too late! 🤣) I didn't buy the bestop, I bought a factory soft top kit, and I didn't even put it on the Jeep.
I'm sorry I couldn't help more, I know what it's like looking for a soft top for an LJ, it's really kind of frustrating.

Back when I was talking to them, they told me that they only offered the black diamond material for the LJ. I hope I'm wrong, and I really hope that they would offer an upgraded material for the LJ, I'd buy it in a New York second!

Yea, says right there on their site, "except Unlimited".
I hate this so much!! I would love to have a nice top for Big Red, they they just refuse to make it because it's an LJ.

Thanks!!!! The Bestop twill is pretty expensive!

I'm sorry I get so upset over this subject, It just kills me that they refuse to make the higher quality tops for the Unlimited models. It's LJ discrimination!! 🤣🤣

Glad this thread just popped up, I was meaning to do some research for a replacement soft top for my LJ. It would be nice if you could just special order a twill LJ top from them, but they would probably charge way too much for that lol

Yea, I tried that. I offered them twice what they charge for the regular black diamond top to make me a twill one, and they just laughed at me over the phone and basically called me an idiot.
I really feel like they are missing a huge opportunity here. I've never tried so damn hard to get someone to take my money in my whole life!

I love my supertop nx. Have not noticed it being thinner material. I cleans up better than my factory top did. I really like the sun rider feature as well.

Hey @Rescue6
Yea, I really wish they hadn't told me that the regular black diamond tops were a thinner lighter material! The only reason I bought the factory soft top kit was because I want the best quality top I can get my hands on, and since they said the factory tops were a heavier material, I bought one of those.
I'm sure that the supertop nx is a great top, and I'd be just as happy with it. My stupid brain gets in the way and prevents me from just enjoying the easy things.

In all honesty, I'm seriously considering buying one and seeing for myself wich one actually is better and selling the one I don't like as much.

I’d bet even the thinner bestop is better than the other LJ tops out there. My plan to replace the rampage that’s falling apart on me is still the bestop.
