Hey everyone, wondering if anyone has experience towing motorcycles on the back of a Tj/LJ?

I have an '06 LJ, I really would love to get a hitch mount carrier that would hold my Triumph Daytona (~400lbs) as I travel from PA to TN. Does anyone have advice? I've heard that it's maybe not the best but I really don't have anywhere to put any kind of trailer.

Thanks in advance!

Just out of curiosity how often do you take your Jeep off-road? I ask because you could buy a set of cheap helper bags to pop into your rear springs for those trips. The hitch can handle the weight no problem, but I think you’ll have a decent amount of sag.

Buddy tried it when moving from Austin to Dallas, he said it made the front end seem light and he wouldn't try it again. Hitch/tongue weight on an LJ is 350# if I recall.

I’m not positive but I believe that would exceed the max gross tongue weight for your Jeep. You’d prob be better off pulling a small trailer. With the proper cg on the loaded trailer it would put you well within the max towing capacity and max tongue weight.

Rarely take it off-road as of now. Something I'll eventually get into but haven't yet.

I have used the carrier you are considering to haul my motocross bike on the back of my Tacoma. My dirt bike weighed about 250lbs and I could still really feel it back there. I can’t imagine hauling a triumph 500 miles like that (especially on the back of your Jeep). Have you considered purchasing a small utility trailer on Craigslist and then selling it when your done. I know it sounds like a hassle but I did this once and In the end it didn’t really end up costing me anything for the trailer. Good luck!

Towed my Sportster coast to coast on a single bike trailer in my 99 SE without an issue, including 6 hours thru a blinding snowstorm crossing the Cascades. Jeep was well loaded with a Rottweiler in the back. I would have no issue doing it again but don't think I would attempt that with a carrier.

My son uses on of these to move his bike spring and fall to store his bite in my garage. About a 250 mile ride.
