Which OME springs should I go with?

I recently put 31s on my TJ and have decided to go with OME springs and Rancho RS5000X shocks.

Looking at the OME catalog, they have a wide variety of springs and I am not sure which ones to get.

It appears they mage light load, medium load, and heavy load, as well as springs for the Unlimited models.

My goal is 2 inches of lift and no serious rake.

I have a UCF aluminum front bumper, Warn winch, half doors, and a soft top. I sometimes use the back seat for kids, but the rear bumper isn't anything heavy, just a steel rear and factory tailgate mounted spare tire (31).

Please tell me which OME springs you used, and post photos of them on your TJ if you could. I keep reading about people having issues with serious rakes, so I am concerned about what springs to order.

I've heard things about running the light load springs in the rear and the heavy load springs in the front to avoid a rake. I believe @ac_ may have done this.

I think @CodaMan has the OME springs as well, and his doesn't seem to have a rake, so maybe he'll chime in as to which springs he used.

I use ProComp springs, but I believe @JMT went through this whole OME spring thing with rake and all.

Okay, it's @JMT I was thinking of then. He and @ac_ went through the rake nonsense, though I'm not sure what springs they ended up using to solve it.

I had the OME lift on my first TJ and had no rake whatsoever. Though for the life of me I now can't remember which springs I used.

Don't mix and match spring rates just to avoid rake, IMO. Put spacers on the front if you want it nice and level.

I was debating over this myself, until I saw the difference in spring rate between the regular and heavy duty was only 20 pounds. That's really not going to make much difference. I got the HD springs, rated at 2.5" in the rear and 2" up front. That seems about right from where mine ended up. I do have some forward rake, deciding if I care enough to put spacers up front. I probably will if I load up the front with more weight, like a heavier bumper and winch.

Also got the Rancho RS5000X at the same time. Big improvement on mine, but my stock suspension was done for.

Do you have any pictures of your TJ with this setup? I see what you're saying about spring rates though

Yeah, here ya go. Before and after. Keep in mind my stock springs were sagging pretty good, I ended up with a 3"-3.5" lift over where I was.

Yeah, but you're heavier than mine and those are 32s, 33s? That's what I'm shooting for after all my planned mods are done. Currently my tires are 30x9.5", and they don't even quite hit 29" tall as measured from the pavement.

The length of the springs after install measured right where they should for 2" - 2.5"

My OME setup is fine. It was @ac_ who had all the issues. He went to Currie

I have the light springs front and back. Steel bumper and a front winch lowered my front only about a 1/2" and ride nicely. Rear has a heaven (70 lb) bumper, but I run nothing in the back 99% of the time. 32" tires. OME springs come with a 3/4" spacer for the front so you can adjust the front rake how you like. I would suggest getting the light springs f and r unless you plan to carry more than a spare tire for most of the time.

I haven't noticed any real change in height or ride with the hardtop on or off either.

Those are 265s in the photo, so 31”.

I have OME 2941 and 2932 springs on mine. Added a 10mm spacer up front to level out the rake. Factory bumpers, no winch and soft top on 31s. I wound up with a little over 2.5" of lift.

The rear stays level even when loaded and the front only sags a small amount if I sit with my full weight on the bumper.

I just did the OME 2.5" lift with 2933/2949 springs and a .75" spacer in front. I have an LJ set up to tow so I went heavier shocks in the rear. Rancho 55239/55241 shocks. JKS OGS151/OGS126 adjustable track bars.

I gained 3.25" (2.5"+.75" spacer) in front and 2.75" in the rear.

Here's the list to pick from https://dpgoffroad.com/product/tjlj-wrangler-coil-springs/. I chose heavier variable spring rates for my heavier bumper and eventual winch and because I have an LJ set to up to tow a small trailer. I'm not sure who would use the constant heavy load springs (2934/2996). Maybe someone with a 35" spare and a snow plow on front. :D

OME-2932 Stock/Light Load (0-90lbs) Spring 2.0"
OME-2933 Heavy Load (90-180lbs) Spring 2.5"
OME-2934 Front Constant Heavy Load (200+) 2.5-3"
OME-2941 Rear Light Load/Soft Top Spring 2.5"
OME-2942-1 Rear Heavy Load (200+) 2.0"
OME-2949 Rear Heavy Constant Load (220 to GVW) Spring 2.5"
OME-2996 Jeep Unlimited Rear Coil Springs (Constant 400 lbs) 2.5"

OME-2939 Front Heavy Load 4"
OME-2946 4" Rear Coil Springs

OME-2930-L Front STock/Light Load (0-110 lbs added weight) 1.75"
OME-2930-H Front Heavy Load (110-200 lbs added weight) 1.5"

Wow! I didn't even realize OME made so many choices in springs. That's actually very confusing

I'm surprised more people don't run the JKS springs. It appears they offer a 2" spring as well.

When I started looking around I ran into the same confusion issue. It's probably why people ask about which OME springs to use all the time. OME is one recommendation people give here, then when you go to look for them, there are too many options.

Most everyone is going to pick the 2.5" light or heavy TJ (2932, 2941) or LJ (2933, 2949). The light load front is only 2" according to the website which is why people say to add the spacer to level things out. If you run a heavy front bumper or winch on a regular TJ then a (2933, 2941) combo is probably better. The 2949 is better for the LJ rear with a hardtop or if you add significant weight to the back. If you pick the 2949 rear, it's probably better to pair it with the 2933 up front.

I added a .75" spacer to the heavier springs up front to decrease the factory rake from 1" to 1/2". When I add on the body lift, I'll have 4.25" in front and 3.75" in the back with spring rates tuned to my various applications.

Yes, I'll admit that that is very, very confusing seeing all those springs, but especially not know what combination is going to provide what lift height, etc.

It sure would be nice if OME provided some more clarity on the issue.

Now I understand why @CodaMan went with ProComp springs

Or hell, even those JKS 2" springs make a lot of sense. One set of springs to choose from doesn't leave you guessing like it does with all the OME options.

And if you download the application guide from ARB you get slightly different information, where they say most of the springs give a 2" lift.

https://arbusa.com/site/wp-content/uploads/jeepWranglerTJ.pdf

But I'd go with the above 2.5" if you're planning. Most of the springs and shocks in these 15 year old Jeeps are a little tired so you gain 2.5" from worn rather than 2" from new.

I think most people would have the best results with a 2933 front spring and an added spacer or not for looks. Then a 2941 rear spring for a regular TJ and 2949 rear spring for an LJ. Most everyone runs a winch so the heavier front spring seems more appropriate and the rear is different due to the added length and weight of the LJ (especially with a hard top).

TJ 2933/2941
LJ 2933/2949
Front spacer to taste

Nowhere on or in the box does it mention what to do with the A and B springs. I searched around the internet and ended up putting the A springs on the front driver's side and rear passenger side. B springs front passenger side and rear driver's side. The end result was perfectly level on all corners.
