OBD2 reader won't read

Hello, I have an iOBD2 that I usually use to read error codes on my cars. For some reason it can't read the TJ? Any suggestions or ideas why? My issue is the check gauges light comes on when the jeep is cold and has been sitting over night or while at work. And I want to read the codes if there are any.

Thank you

I didn't know there was a manual method to retrieve codes
Turn the key to the on/run position and then back off three times. Third time leave it in the on position. ON/OFF/ON/OFF/ON. If there are any codes they will read out where your odometer is displayed. If there are none it will say either done or 55. This wont work if you have a 98-00 tho.

Not that I noticed
Check it out next time you have the problem. About a year ago, on a cold start my tj would start up fine but the oil pressure was at zero and the check gauges light came on. I would have to turn it off, restart and all would be well. Turned out to be my oil pressure sending unit. I believe a few others on here have had a similar problem

I have the same problem with mine. I have a 2000 so I guess the manual way wont work on mine.
I bought an El cheapo reader from walmart (I know...), but it works great every time in my two other vehicles. On the jeep, it takes 5-6 times til it may "connect" to the vehicle and then if/when it does connect, it "loses" signal before I can go through the menu. I have no codes present but it should still connect. I may take it to autozone just to see if their reader will connect before I buy a better scanner.

I think Some 2000 do work and some don't so it would be worth a try anyway.
Is your OBD port corroded?

Old thread I know but just came across it due to not getting a read from the OBD port in my 05.
There's a known issue with the OBD system on 05-06 Wranglers and it should be covered by warranty, see attached.
