Test Drove A 2021 Wrangler Today

Received an email from local jeep dealer offering $25, Amazon gift card if I test drove a new jeep. Been kind of wondering how the new ones drove and being semi-retired and making easy $$ sooooooo......
Stopped by and showed a salesperson the offer, also informed them I wasn't looking to purchase but was intrigued has how one might drive,
I drove the 2-door wrangler with 3.6 8/auto and can say was impressed by the ride. No way near $37K impressed though. Nice little jeep though. Lost is the option for someone like me to work on them. A shame.
In & Out in less than 30 minutes.
Plan to buy DW something extra so all is good.

I did something like that about a year and a half ago with a Dodge 2500 diesel.

Drove my ‘06 to the lot, checked out the new one. Really nice, but 65K! And computer everything, plus it requires DEF.

Told ‘em you’ll never get me in one of those. It costs more than my first house! 🤣

My BUFF ...

Ford Excursion 7.3 4x4 ...

Was between 50 and 60k brand new 19 years ago.
 
The prices of Jeeps continue to climb and while they are nice vehicles; they certainly do not warrant the prices they are asking.
If it was $37k, knock off $10k and you're in new TJ/LJ MSRP territory with a piss poor 4.0L (horsepower, emissions, other lacking etc) smaller frame, smaller axle housings and guts, cheaper feeling plain interior, less interior room, poor resale value(new Jeep Wranglers are #1 in resale value), smaller brakes, rear drum brakes, smaller wheels, smaller tires, smaller gas tank, less mpg’s, smaller console, no hood insulation, no outside temp guage,no steering wheel radio controls, tire pressure monitors, backup camera, inboard shocks vs outboard shocks, non highline, steel doors, and a steel hood.

Everytime I see someone bitch and moan about the price, I ask; what should the price be and how did you justify that asking price?

Imagine the TJ or LJ you could build with that kind of money...just sayin.
 
Great daily drivers, but as someone who likes to work on my own vehicles I just couldn't imagine owning one.

The nice thing about my TJ.... NO PAYMENTS !!!!
 
When we bought our BMW they had a deal that if I came in to test drive a car they’d take $1,000 off. Went in the night of the scheduled test drive event, got the $1,000 off certificate, they fed me horsdoeuvres and alcohol. Never did test drive anything.

A lot of that is true and while the 3.6 is better on the highway I'll take the 4.0 on the trail every day of the week. I've rented JLs in Hawaii and SW Colorado and was appalled by how much more attention I had to put into keeping the revs up to climb hills that the 4.0 would almost idle up.

So you’re saying it caused you to slow down, evaluate, respond and call for more attention to throttle input behind the wheel of the JL than it does in the TJ/LJ?

It would interesting if you would have the same reaction if given the 2.72:1 geared transfer case and then the 4:1 transfer case in the TJ/LJ…for science

Exactly. If I ever downshift on the trail it's because I want to go slower. I had to downshift the JL because I needed more power/torque. I don't have a good explanation for it since as you pointed out, on paper it makes no sense. I just know what it felt like, and in SW Colorado they were trails I had been on in a TJ so it was as apples to apples as it could get.
