Morning everyone.
So jesus decided to try and take the wheel yesterday, but his wheel choice was the rear driver and the axle shaft tagged along.

Looking at ten factory 1541h 27 spline shafts or if I can find them, revolutions 27 spline shafts to get back in the game.
I know they are not as strong as 30 spline but at beginning of year I regeared to 4.56 and a tru trac so I'd rather not have to pay to get the gearing set back up etc.
Running 33s on east coast and do moderate to semi heavy trails at places like rausch.

Pros and cons of just doing shafts or biting bullet and going super 35 kit and e locker.

Did the research but I'm on thenfence. Thanks for being my sounding board

Btw this tool was amazing. Wish they still made it

If you do go to 30 spline, the only carriers offered are lockers, and not limited slip. So if you ever decide you want a rear locker, that would be the time for a Super 35 kit.
If I had found this forum last fall, I'd have a super 35 and e locker now vs having done tru trac....

Assuming your gears are pretty new, you may be able to get away with just setting backlash and leaving the pinion depth alone when you install a new locker, and you can likely reuse the gears, unless you used thick cut.

I saw this pic on the RC Connection yesterday. Does that allow the wheel to spin and still hold it in? Bernie special? Good luck with the repair.
Yes, it is an upgrade to the log trick however you gotta get the straps just right or the thing flops around but I got from 101 hills to parking lot Under own power and axle shaft still in

you're right at the top of the 101 hill climbs in that photo, what a great spot, I love those climbs - the ones leading up to where you are and those to the left that connect back to the east property, there's a few there that are obscured by brush that are really steep & really fun. I don't know if I'd mess around in that area with a stock 35 though on those bigger tires you have. The subject of the strength of the aftermarket 27 spline shafts compared to stock comes up from time to time & I've never seen any definitive account of how the increased strength translates into usage. They're stronger by definition, but are they strong enough to prevent Jesus from taking the wheel again based upon what you're doing? Personally I wouldn't want to find out the hard way & go through what you experienced again, and since you're now in a position where you have to buy shafts anyway I'd strongly consider the extra expense involved with stepping up to the S35. I've pounded the shit out of mine in that same spot you're in dozens of times with it & it's in pristine condition. Plus you'll be infinitely better situated too with a real locker.

Ha yea it all depends on just exactly you call top or bottom....
I have to hit up a buddy to see what cost would be to use my current gears and upgrade to the s35 and elocker

Location was base of hills just off the back side of power line. Really steep narrow line that I've done before and wanted to do again. But it was washed out with big divet. Hit it in 4 low, goosed it slightly and pop.... Down hill towards the very sharp drop off we went no brakes. Luckily the e-brake locked the passenger tire and stopped us as i also let off clutch to engine brake before seeing how well the tj flys

indeed, you're at the plateau there & that's a really fun little bowl I love driving around, it connects all of the climbs & I usually hang out there for 20 or so minutes just driving around in circles before climbing out of there. The main one is just over the fallen tree about half way through this video but there are a few to the right that are fun as hell too

still in that bowl area, about 5:30 of this video my buddy Pete spends 10 minutes trying to get up that middle ledge, I've tried it before without success

Got me really wanting to get back down to rausch! Ten factory shafts should help but as ya probably know, the 35 doesn't like the skinny pedal. Does the super 35 kit do a c clip eliminator? Being able to drive out of the trail is always a plus

The Super 35 negates the need for a c-clip eliminator for the most part. Breakage of Super 35 shafts is rare. Breakage of 27 spline shafts is very common.

If you really need something stronger than a Super 35, a TJ Dana 44 with chromoly 30 spline shafts (or a 33 or 35 spline upgrade) would be even stronger. Beyond that and you really need to consider a Dana 60 or larger. However, unless you're running 37" plus tires, upgraded TJ axles are generally fine.
