I bought my 2001 TJ SE in October of 2000 with 6 miles on her. She just turned 20 a little over a month ago with just under 140K miles and since she's been pretty much factory this entire time I decided to do a couple updates:

  • Replaced the chrome headlight insets with black ones
  • Got black insets for the grill
  • Removed the front and rear bumper "milk jugs" that were faded AF and replaced with caps
  • installed the tube running boards
  • Went to 31" tires with new Fuel rims (special thanks to the folks in this forum which help educate me on tires/rims!)
  • "polished" up the fender flares to bring them back to a much less faded dark grey
  • replaced a banged up back license plate holder
  • Got some yellow and black seat covers for the interior
  • replaced the 15 year old pioneer stereo with an upgraded one with bluetooth and usb (now I can finally charge my phone in the car again - cig lighter has been dead for years)
  • new speakers for the sound bar as well
I'm proud to say I did all of the updates myself with the exception of the wheels/tires. :)

Maybe she'll last another 20 years! I will never sell this Jeep.

I really like the look of a mostly stock Jeep, and the yellow is such a nice color, the seat covers really improves the interior. I had a 2001 Jeep Wrangler SE that just rusted away, now I've got a 2004 Jeep Wrangler SE that I've gone over front to back, and top to bottom. I know the 4cly doesn't get much love here but I really like mine, and like you I don't plan on ever selling it.

Have you thought about a regear to go along with your 31" tires?
Not for now - I drive very little - hence only 140K miles over 20 years; mostly city. I haven't been on the interstate yet so we'll see how that feels and go from there (eventually)

Well I said complete, but are we ever really done? Installed these fender flares this weekend. Boy was that a labor of love - old posts on this forum were very helpful though. I'm glad I found/joined this forum.
