Having had a few project vehicles. You tend to find things when your dismantling them.

in my 55-F100 I found a really cool old bottle opener. Other than that pieces of newspaper that were older than me. But that was it.

so yesterday when I pulled the dashboard. Having owned my Jeep since it was new. Didn’t think I would find anything. Outside of a pen. Or other oddity.

well call me surprised when I pulled the dash and sitting on top of the heater ductwork was a Motorola RAZR from 2005. It has been sitting in the dashboard for the last 15 years.
So my 14 year old son is crazy fascinated by it. He threw power to it and it still works. Powers up. But the battery can’t maintain more than two seconds.

I’ve heard some stories of people finding pistols to pie pans. So what’s the oddest thing you’ve found?

Had a '62 Galaxie 500 convertable . . . . beautiful car. Black, red interior.
Removed the rear seat to install speakers in the kick panel below the seat.
Someone from the factory had placed a brand new 1962 nickel under the kick panel where it meets the floor pan, then welded in the kick panel. Could not pry it out. Put a smile on my face.

I found an ominous black hole that has an insatiable appetite for my discretionary money and time. No matter how much of either I throw at it, it doesn't plug the hole. The more I read these forums, the more I accept the notion of the hole being a common feature instead of an oddity. I knew trouble was afoot when I completed the buyers section on the title and watched my signature being singed in to the document.

found a striker plate that was used when previous owner was short a fender washer to install his flares :cool::cool:

When I was a kid ,maybe 12 years old , my Dad bought a a 53 Chevy pickup to make into a wrecker for his shop truck. I was tasked with removing the seat and cleaning out the interior. Under the seat was a bunch of old license plates, all from New York, dating from 1922 up to 1948 , some matching sets and a couple sets from when the worlds fair was held in New York. I cleaned them up and still have them today.

That’s cool. Hanging in your man cave?

I found a vintage shortwave radio and about two dozen record albums locked in the trunk (auction car). My buddy found almost $2,200 in cash in the trunk of a mid-70's Thunderbird he bought (also an auction car). But the best was from a lifelong buddy of mine. While it wasn't a car, it's too good of a story not to share.

My buddy bought a vintage dump-of-a-trailer as part of an estate sale. It was located in a rough part of town, in a trailer park. He paid $1,250 for the trailer, figuring he'd clean it up and flip it. He had his girlfriend over, as well as his brother and his brother's girlfriend. They were there to help clean it up. Someone moved a lamp, and found a $100 bill under it. Jokes were made about the find, and work continued. Eventually, a seat cushion was lifted, and there was $500 in cash under it. At that point, my buddy kicked everyone out of the place, and decided to tear into it by himself. Well, it became apparent that the old man who had passed didn't believe in banks, as by the time my friend had torn the place apart, he had found over $25,000 in cash stashed throughout the trailer. He told me that he lay in bed that night feeling guilty, like he should maybe contact the old man's (adult) kids, but then remembered how the kids (he had met them at the estate sale) really had nothing good to say about their father, and that they had very little to do with him. They just wanted to be rid of his stuff so that they wouldn't have to deal with it. So, he decided to keep mum about the money, and he put it to good use. It's a story I'll never tire of sharing, as it borders on finding buried treasure. (y)

During its maiden off-road voyage my xterra came down hard after going over a rock. I felt something hit my foot. i looked down and there was a small bag next to my foot. They were the factory keyless entry fobs for the vehicle. I remember being bummed when i purchased the vehicle that it didn't come with them. The tech at the factory must have laid them on the dash during assembly and forgot to remove them when the dash went on. They still worked.

i found about 5 extra copies of the key to my TJ under the center console. Guessing somebody dropped them through the e-brake opening, and despite caring enough to have the keys made, didn't care enough to pull the console to get them back out.

Also, I found a 10mm socket under the spring-loaded plastic cover at the back of the inboard driver seat rail. It rattled around in there for a year driving me crazy 'cause from the drivers seat it sounded like it was coming from the pedal area and the plastic cover kept it hidden.

Maybe the lost 10mm socket is why they never got the keys out from under the console.

They werent project vehicles but back in the 70s we would go through old cars found rusting and abandoned in the woods. Most had been there for decades. What we were looking for was old silver (or gold!) coins that had fallen underneath the seats and we found quite a few along with things like old rusty bottle openers and zippo lighters, etc. None of the coins were super rare and valuable (or gold) but it was always an interesting treasure hunt.

On a related note, 2 different times in my mid twenties I found exactly 2,500 dollars in 100 dollar bills just laying on the ground. Same amount both times.
First time was outside a grocery store and the second was outside a Logans roadhouse.
Bought myself a HK USP in .45 and blew the rest on having fun. Still have the pistol.

in my Jeep so far:

2 spare key boxes with no spare keys
1 baggie containing approximately 1oz cannabis
a bra under the rear seat
a 24 pack of condoms (apparently wishful thinking as the box was still sealed)
and finally what appears to be a pair of nipple clamps attached by a chain

How much to get the whole Jeep dipped in bleach ? 😉
