Auto PCM in manual? Hard starts, been sitting for a while

@thuddles use some contact cleaner and not dielectric grease. Over time the grease gets chalky causing connection issues.

How long has the jeep been sitting? Is it a California Jeep (low emissions?) It could be a number of issues from fuel pump, fuel, transfer case to FS1 programming.

Do you think they programmed the PCM wrong? If it was for an automatic transmission would this make sense?
Whatever other issues you may have that contribute to the no start condition including a faulty PCM, installing and using one programmed for the auto is not it. We had similar issues with a Florida based PCM supplier. We sent them a PCM and they kept sending it back programmed for the wrong trans. If you use the auto PCM with a manual, it throws a CEL for lack of TCC circuit but it will start, run, and drive. If you use a manual PCM in an auto rig, it will start, run and drive but you will have the upshift light on the dash.

That is for the 97-02 in this case.

If you want to do some more testing without pushing in the clutch, there is a clutch safety override fuse behind the glove box you can pull. Be careful, it will start in gear and run into something.

I would try using contact cleaner instead of alcohol.
Contact cleaner does a more thorough job of dissolving oxidation, oils and does not affect the electronics.
I didn’t want to pry the thing open so i sprayed contact cleaner where i could and then soaked it with the alcohol.

thanks for the info, i think i’m good with the one i have then.

i got to excited after having it started and didn’t even think about my transfer case shifter 🙄😂

@thuddles Good idea not to open it. Look closely at where the silicone is missing. The processor missed being destroyed by that much.

Crazy!! I think the one i got from FS1 is working. Like i said i got it started and it was idling. Now i don't have any fuel pressure, or very very little. I have power going from the relay so i think my fuel pump got clogged or something... Weird that it idled by itself for 10 min and then 15 min later it wont start. I spray starting fluid and it will turn on for like 3 seconds and immediately sputter back off.

I read somewhere that people will cut a hole in the floor board under the back seat to make an easy access point rather than taking out the entire gas tank and disconnecting all of those hoses and stuff. anyone got a link??
