Brake fluid leaking from proportioning valve

I have brake fluid leaking from my proportioning valve. It leaks down the engine bay on the frame and control arm and leaves a puddle under the Jeep. I find it odd that it has not done anything to the paint.

I don't have a mushy peddle, it is actually way stiff. It is coming from that bolt on the end. Does it just need to be tightened? I wanted to ask before I mess with it.

That’s the proportioning part of the valve and I doubt tightening it would make any difference.

It sounds like the seal behind the equalizing portion is leaking.

I don’t believe any parts are available to service it, so you’ll have to replace the whole valve.

OEM’s are expensive, but I got one on amazon for $100.

You could get one from a wrecking yard but it could be in the same shape as the one you’ve got.

Stealership wanted $250 for it so I ordered one on Amazon.

Is there a good way to keep the master cylinder from running dry when installing it?

Two good ways, first is to take a stick against the front of the seat and push the brake pedal down a small bit, couple of inches.
Second is just hurry. The master doesn't pour out much fluid with the lines disconnected.

The fluid is leaking because one of the two o-rings has failed for some reason on that end piece. Don't toss it, pull that piece off, match up the o-rings with brake fluid compatible versions and replace them. Toss it on the shelf for a spare.
