The other off-road lighting thread got me looking and I didn’t want to hijack it with questions...

One of my KC Daylighter Halogen lens cracked so I was interested in replacing with the Gravity LED inserts. I was curious if anyone had any experience with the Wide 40 beam vs the Driving beam. I use them mainly for country backroads and dirt roads. On paper the Wide 40 seems to be a good mix of the distance of the Driving beam and the width of the Fog beam, but I have not really been able to find much in Googleland to compare them. The only video I've found so far show the driving beam had pretty bright hot spots, but I couldn't really tell if they had good fill.

Thanks

I know the camera doesn’t always have the same perception as the eye when is comes to lighting but the Driving beam doesn’t seem to have much fill, which peaks my interest in the Wide 40 even though it is not DOT compliant.

Do one of each, driving and wide. I was wondering which to go with years ago when the sales director at KC suggested I go with one of each. That proved to be a great combination.

Those inserts are an awesome solution to say the least.
The Wide 40 works much better to show the side ditch areas and works almost better then a headlight depending on how you aim them. The driving lights have really good projection, much more so than most stock headlights and have a lot of fill. In the 6" size, it will be like driving in daylight really. I would pick the wide 40 and keep them well below the headlight line to keep it all legal. Aim the driver side one slightly lower just to make sure you don't get in trouble(although these have a great cutoff, you never know with SJWs out there)

Take a look at the diagram, could not be simpler. The combination of the driving light and Wide 40 is great. My current headlights have a similar pattern to the inserts and I aim them down slightly. When I turn on the wide 40s on it is like driving in daylight. I put yellow lamin-x on the wide 40s to match my yellow headlights and it is pleasant to the eye and all the details just pop up. The spotters on the A pillar also have a yellow film.
