This is an update to how this turned out -

I found this 2006 Rubicon for $9800 with 72,000 miles.

It had been hit in the right rear axle so they replaced the axle and the sway bar link and It had a camouflage wrap they didn’t want to re-purchase so they shot the whole thing with bedliner.

I wouldn’t do this to a nice Rubi at the same time I wouldn’t take it off this jeep if I could....You can beat it to death and it just simply doesn’t show any wear and tear.

I traded @Chief Brohician a set of xp985s for the Instatrunk.

How clean does it stay? It looks good, but it's be afraid of the dirt never really washing out.
Just like you see it ...easiest finish I’ve ever had . Tools ...lay em on it . Tree branches ...bring it. Mud falls off. It can be filthy with road film and you won’t know it til you lean on it.

I think the key is several things-

Use one that is hard and has some sheen ...shiny finishes are microscopically flatter, even if textured as a whole, and in the finish world, gloss equals hardness generally.

Secondly , leave it in the garage or under a cover...sun can turn bedliner to chalk.

Lastly, I shoot mine with tire shine to feed it and act as a release agent.

It’s really odd...I’m not a fan, only like bedliner as a detail for high use areas and truck beds, but I’m really ok with this ...for this TJ. It solved a problem, isn’t a showpiece any way, and gives it a unique look ...it’s actually neat under street lights, like the old matte YJ finishes.

I really don’t like to see a good vehicle get repainted , and my hesitation with bedliner is that it may be hard to reverse and sort of categorizes a vehicle ...not sure what category but it does in my mind.

Touches up great.

The Jeep was someone’s project ...has a banks intake, banks stainless exhaust, tow rite hitch, new warn winch that was never used, synthetic line, nice stereo and Deegan wheels and whatever headlights these are...led halo knockoffs.

I modified the bumpers, fixed a rear locker air line, installed a new drag link end, Duratrac tires(money very well spent ) added lights, the decals and serviced it and added the back up camera. I put grand Cherokee springs in front and 2.5 RockCrawler in the rear,Rancho Shocks and JKS links.

I’m $11,500 in and thoroughly enjoy it on road and off. It is a champ.

I have several standing offers on it and just really hate sell, I know I likely won’t ever have a better Rubi Auto at that cost.

At @Hog had driven it but not since the new tires, and @Claybirdd has and both have wheeled with me...it has great manners off road and on and will climb like a Rubi should....suprisingly well for 30.5 inch tires.

I know it’s an odd one, but I think I see it as redemption for overspending on my other one. I’m sure my wife would understand how that equals out 😏

That metal trunk looks great. The carpet needs to be dyed to match the interior better. Still looks great.

I'll have to try this on the interior bedliner on mine. It's faded and dirty no matter what kind of cleaning I do to it.

Also, good to see you finally putting a build thread together!
Thanks...got an I phone finally.

it’s just a fix up project ...I’ve considered going further but can’t talk myself into making harder to get in and out of just to look cooler.

@Hog is my partner in crime on this stuff... he never runs out of ideas. Hopefully he will before I run out of money.
