Which Core 4x4 control arms should I buy?

I am curious about control arms and which end type set up is the best pros and cons and what not, I have looked at lots and lots of them in varying degrees of prices and options.

What I am trying to figure out is it seems that most come in the variety of what the guys at core 4x4 are doing with their tiers, can someone help me with the pros and cons of the tiers. I know there are tons of companies and everyone has their go to but this is the easiest way for me to understand them. I had a local place suggest metalcloak but not sure I like their pushing system over the JJ

Tier 1

  • Built using 1.625″ OD 3/16″ Wall tubing.
  • Rubber or Polyurethane on adjustable end.
  • Rubber or Polyurethane on fixed end.
Tier 2
  • Built using 1.625″ OD 3/16″ Wall tubing.
  • Welded Currie Johnny Joint on adjustable end.
  • Rubber or Polyurethane on fixed end.
Tier 3
  • Built using 1.75″ OD 5/16″ Wall DOM tubing.
  • Forged Currie Johnny Joint on adjustable end.
  • Tapered Flex Polyurethane on fixed end.
Tier 4
  • Built using 1.75″ OD 5/16″ Wall DOM tubing.
  • Forged Currie Johnny Joint on adjustable end.
  • Welded Currie Johnny Joint on fixed end.
How you use your TJ the most?

trail riding nothing crazy just out and enjoying east Tennessee
I do run the Tier 3 on my LJ, I wheel hard. This CA has take all that abuse and runs nice in the road after all of that. I just took them off as am extending the links and they are scratched but both joints are in good shape.

To Have JJ has its advantage, have double adjustable too. Can we live by without this advantage, yes.

If you looking for a review from someone that use this Core 4 x4 CA, you just read it.

the original title of the post was more about learning control arms over going with core 4x4 they have great warranty and all but I’d rather buy something once not twice, and there are so many options out there it makes it hard for a newbie sometimes.

Their warranty puts you in that buy it once category... Nobody can match their warranty. For the cost difference, I would always go to at least T3 and get their flex poly and a Forged Johnny Joint. It's just my opinion, but I can't see spending the $$ and getting either rubber or old style poly in any joints. If you can swing it, just go for the T4 and be happy.

Playing devil's advocate - what's there to warranty on a control arm? The race of a JJ is a wear item, otherwise nothing else will when installed properly. All that to say... does it matter?

Give Spence a call and see what he says. It's a you break it, they replace it warranty. I've never heard of a claim denied. Have you never seen a bent control arm?

Correct, I haven’t. The mounts seem to go first, at least on any aftermarket arms that would include a JJ.
I do agree that the mounts get abused... And its fair to say that the short arms are less vulnerable than mids or long arms. So, I would have to ask, why would you have to buy twice?

I don’t think I follow. Given my understanding of how CAs work and wear the likelihood of ever needing to replace anything beyond the ball + race in the joints (which are wear items) I don’t expect to ever “have to buy twice” (either the savvy option or the core 3/4).

I got your post confused with the OP's post... You replied to mine that was a reply to his stating he'd rather buy once, not twice.

I was looking for options in control arms and the best bang for buck possible..... and I was thinking in...... WHAT IF....

you get the Tier 1 Core 4x4 arms (170 bucks) and then just upgrade them into the Currie Forged JJ CE-9113L (both would be 130 bucks) would be pretty much the same price as the Tier 2 but with forged JJ instead of the soldered ones.... and you can use the adjustable end a few months and save some money before upgrading into the forged JJ, I mean it would be in steps.....

my idea...

Core 4x4 tier one with all rubber bushings $170 the pair
use them a few months and save money
Buy the Currie Forged JJ CE-9113L $130 both

change the adjustable ends from the Tier 1 with rubber bushings into the forged JJ for the same price, and you will have a spare for the adjustable ends!!!

total cost o my idea 300 bucks the par,

get from the beggining the tier 2 without the forged JJ but a soldered JJ would be $280 but with a spare for the ends!

Tier 1 is not good. Solid arms with rubber bushings are a recipe for a busted mount.

Tier 2 would be ok for moderate wheeling.

Tier 3 & 4 are nice. But at that price range you can also look at the aluminum Savvy arms which are double adjustable.

I have Metalcloak on my rear axle and have no complaints.

I would agree, i have metalcoak control arms on my Gladiator and they are a dream to say the least
They are comfortable, adjustable, rebuildable, no need to grease them
They are great and i will most likely end up with metalcloak CA's on my Lj :D

I went round and round on deciding on arms. I finally decided on Currie DAA aluminum, because I plan on keeping this rig for a long time. I'm not disappointed.
