I 'm wanting to pull the trigger on a rear axle swap on my 1998 from the Dana 35 to Dana 44. The question is other than local junk yards and/or a general search of goggle can someone recommend a company/website that is reputable to purchase a axle from?

Dynatrac, Currie, ECGS, and others. That’s a pretty broad question without context. What’s your budget and what are you trying to accomplish are the real questions - custom axles get expensive quick.

Dana44 looks like a BIG upgrade to me...

Waste of time and money unless you are getting the Dana 44 for really cheap.

Your Dana 35 can be converted to a Super 35 and handle 35” tires just fine without any issues at all.
That is 100% the direction I was going until I found a Dana 30/Dana 44 combo for sale locally at $500. I jumped on it. Swapped in the Dana 44, sold the other two axles for $250.

If you can find one for really cheap there’s no reason not to. Problem is most people want $800 plus just for a Dana 44 rear.

Just purchased a Dana 44/Dana 30 off Craigslist for $600. If you're not in a rush and want a budget axle swap I would recommend just being patient and checking CL and FB marketplace often.

Also, the gear ratio of the new axle needs to match the ratio of your front axle or you'll be spending big bucks to match them.

Budget not really a big problem, this a second vehicle I bought with 76,000 original miles on it (had 2 CJ7's earlier in my days). Done a lot of work on it including I installed a Zone 2 1/2 suspension lift. So along with addressing the axles with lockers this year I was going to install a 1 inch body lift and go from 33's to 35"s. and add a winch.

This is just going to be used for mild to medium trail rides in the north GA area.

I found someone from one of the jeep groups I am a member who was upgrading to Dana 60's and he sold me his dana 30 & 44 for $250 complete. (I never met him before) I am rebuilding them now. Already cut everything off and found another member to weld on the JK2TK kit. (I never met him before either, jeeple are awesome) Collecting parts now, and I estimate around $1900.00 when they are done. A member from another jeep club is going to help me install my new 4.88 gears and lockers. This is just the axels, not everything else, ie adjustable control arms, new drive shafts, yoke eliminator.... You just need to decide the path you want to go, then start.

No, but because this TJ has 3.07 gears I was going to need to upgrade them anyway. The TJ's dana 30 is a low pinion and the JK dana 30 is high pinion improves the front as well. The Artec JK2TJ kit was on discount at the time and with all the bracing it provides made me pull the trigger. The other upgrading I am looking at are do to the 3 in lift currently on the TJ. Stock lift they would bolt directly in, with only brake line mods and new frame side trackbar mount. The JK axles I got had 3.21 gears and those just aren't deep enough for me:)

Oh, and I am getting brake upgrading for next to nothing.
