A different kind of "oil pressure " question. I have a 1997 TJ that was factory equipped with a 4cyl. At some point it had a 4.0 out of I believe a 1992 Cherokee swapped into it. My oil pressure on the cluster reads low all the time. No knocks or rattles, I have installed a mechanical gauge, I don't believe I have actual pressure issues. The cluster gauge reads about 20 psi lower than the mechanical gauge.

It looks like the harness pigtail has been cut off and re-attached. I'm wondering if the connector was different than the factory 1997 one for the 4 cyl so they cut one off the 92. If that's the case, you think the resistance values would be different for the different years and/or engines? I'd like to get the cluster gauge reading right so it quits setting off the "check gauges" light. Any thoughts?

I’m pretty sure older 4.0s had a 2 pin and the newer ones have the 4 pin. 1997 like mine had the 2 pin and looked a little bigger. But yes a bad oil pressure sender will show you have no oil pressure when you actually do and cause the check gauges light to come on. My oil pressure sender is toast too as I’m just waiting for it to arrive so I can have an accurate reading.

Does the sensor look like this?
