I'm trying to remove my seats to replace my carpet but they wont tumble forward, which doesn't allow me to access the seat bolts on the back. Help me..

There is a lever under the seat that you can pull down to get it to tumble if it has the feature. Pull the tab on the seat and lever at same time. I think the lever and tab should be connected by a cable but Im not sure. Mine aren't.

Reach under the seat and feel around for a lever pad. Push down down on the pad and pull up on the back of the seat. It will tumble....then shove the seat adjustment bar down and the seat will move forward. Easy when you get the hang of it.....good luck

My 01 has the cable on the drivers seat, but only has the lever pad on the passenger side.
Locating the lever pad may take a little searching....
Grab a flash light and look under the seat; feeling around may not help.

Is it normal for the two seats to operate differently? On the passenger side, when I lift the lever, it tumbles (lifts up and forward) and slides all the way forward all at once. On the driver side, it tumbles, but does not slide forward until I grab the bar on the front of the seat.

Yes, I'd say that's normal. My seats operate the same way. I have a '98.

I am having the same issue. Both seats won't tumble forward. Thank you for this advice, I will have to try it.
Let us know if you have trouble finding the lever pad. I can post a picture later if you need it.

Here are the photos with the lever pads highlighted with my telescoping magnet.

When I strip my Jeep down over the summer for inside cleaning, I will have to look at this. Not being able to pull them forward sucks. Tagline: Jeep! Awesome on trails... crap for bringing home groceries. hahahah!

I must be blind, I don't see any pads?
I think the fold and tumble seats were a factory option, do you have the pull loops on the upper part of the seat? My driver side doesn't have the fold and tumble but my passenger side does

My passenger side has it, but I can't find the lever on the drivers side? I just looked.
No pull loops on either side too.

I always assumed the driver side didn't fold and tumble because the steering wheel was in the way. Did they make some that did?
