How hot is normal for the floor when driving?

I noticed the floor, and E-break area gets warm / emits hot air when driving for about 30-45m. Is this typical? Engine heat and other levels appear to be normal. Oil and other fluids are normal as well. Nervous new old-jeep driver

The catalytic converter gets SUPER HOT and it's just under the floor next to the transmission tunnel adjacent to the passenger side. That is what heats the floor up. With carpeting the floor will get warm but without carpeting there as insulation the floor gets HOT.

Anything to do about it or just one of the joys of a TJ?

I used this product. It was easy to install. I used a liberal amount of aluminum tape just to be sure. I can touch the carpet at my feet now and it is just barely warm.

Yes, I have floor mats so I don’t notice it as much but it does get pretty hot if you take them off and touch there

Thanks for dealing with my nudnik questions. I'm sure I'll fall-in sooner or later. Enjoying the bumps of relearning manual too.

that catalytic converter can be removed without affecting the "check engine" light? I dont have (nor want) codes on my jeep.. but I have suffered the heat in the feet of my passenger so... If I can remove it without any issues I will do it... (no emission regulations here in Mex)
