    Almost a disaster today

The transmission pan on my 99 TJ was leaking like a waterfall so today was the day. I have had the Summit deep pan sitting in the garage for a few months, waiting for cooler weather. All was going smoothly until the last bolt for the filter extension snapped off. It snapped at 25in lbs, I...

Bought myself a new daily driver

The TJ belongs to the misses. My DD was a 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz. Great trucklet, 2.5T AWD, no issues other than it was black and I like a full size truck. I bought a new off the lot 2023 F150 XLT Powerboost. Plenty of room, gobs of power, 23-24 mpg, MSRP was 65k, I got it for 57k OTD. I...

    Avoiding a Money Pit

Wife or GF is not the issue. The issue is that she is the only one that knows if he is getting laid tonight.

My quest for a 32RH pan drain that doesn't break the bank

My Summit pan arrived today. The picture clearly shows a pan gasket, but mine did not come with one. What is the consensus, cork or rubber?

My quest for a 32RH pan drain that doesn't break the bank

Has anyone installed the Summit pan under the stock height skid plate to verify that it fits? I ordered my pan today, planning on installing next weekend.

    Transmission leak

No fresh oil under the TJ this morning. Might have caught a break.

    Transmission leak

Had to throw in the towel for today due to severe weather. We were working in the driveway. Everything is back together except refilling the transfer case and installing the skid plate. Every one of the pan bolts was loose by 1.5+ turns. I torqued them to 150 in lbs and will see if I have...

    Transmission leak

The seals look great. Put a socket on the pan bolts and everyone of them is loose. Do I tighten to Spec or drp the pan and change the gasket?

    Transmission leak

I can't come up with the p/n's so I am not going to address the TC shaft seals unless I need too. I spent the last 1/2 hour looking for the box with various sized PVC endcaps that I use to set seals. While looking for said box, I picked up and moved the box that says "oil seal seat kit" about...

    Transmission leak

Finally crawling under the TJ to tackle this today. I want to have the TC seals on hand if needed. I do not trust auto parts catalogs (long story). Can anyone provide the correct part numbers for the input and output shaft seals? 99 TJ, 32RH, bone stock.

    Transmission leak

The first couple months I owned my 99 Tj 4.0/AT, all was well. The last few months I have had a giant transmission leak. So big, that I have had to add fluid. We have only driven it a couple times since late April, so the leak has been on the back burner. This weekend I am going to attempt...

    Tax Season

I get a break on car tags for being a veteran. It's about $125 to register all 5 vehicles, and just the motorhome is $70 of that due to the GVWR.

    Toyhauler sized Jeep build

The only way I am getting near that thing is if Queequeg harpoons me, then throws a trawl net on me and drags me behind it.

    Tax Season

Ouch. I paid $3120 property tax last year for a home valued at $240k + $4200 to insure the house, motorhome, 65 & 67 Mustang, 99 TJ and 22 Santa Cruz.

    Tax Season

I never planned on living in Georgia long term. By age 65, we are paying no state income tax on 130k of retirement income. Home values are well below the national average. I pay low property taxes and low insurance rates, but I can't sell and buy a comparable home out west for the same money...

    Tax Season

Four years ago we quit the rat race. I quit my job and retired and my wife cut back to a 9 month a year contract. We work to stay in the 12% tax bracket. I see no reason to work hard, earn more, then give a larger percentage to the government so they can fund gender studies, pay for wars and...

    Tax Season

Finally finished up a couple days ago. After a review to check the numbers, I will mail out today. We only owe $1180 to the Feds and Georgia owes us $260. So much better than I thought. Luckily, most of the capital gains are in the 401k and the ROTHs. We will have a lot of financial...

    Wheel Color

One month on the General Grabber 265-75-15 A/S tires. An excellent tire for what we need. At 31" tall and an inch narrower than a 31-10.5-15, it sits right, rides smooth, is quiet and handles well on the road. Less rolling resistance. We are very happy with the tire choice. No offroad yet...
