    Smittybuilt XRC Rear Bumper

Actually, I think my XRC bumper is pretty good. It is going on 9 years now with no problems. About the worse thing I can say about it is that it is made in China. Jerry always posts that picture of the busted tire swing any time someone mentions Smittybilt. Maybe the older designs were terrible...

Thoughts on Potential 2006 Rubicon Purchase

That does not look like a 2006. The vents on the rear of the hardtop were not used in 2006. Maybe the hardtop is just a transplant from an earlier model year though. Also, what is the story on those wheels? Did the Rubicon ever come with gray Moabs? They look aftermarket to me.

Where should I mount my hi-lift jack?

Mine got used once. A guy with a big boat trailer had a blow-out. He didn’t have a jack (or a lug wrench). The hi-lift worked pretty good For that. I just stood back and watched.

Cutting coil springs to reduce ride height

Other than ignoring second order effects, no I said the same thing.

Cutting coil springs to reduce ride height

    Look at your equation.

Cutting coil springs to reduce ride height

Yes, a 150 lb/in spring is a 150 lb/in spring. But cut it in half and it is now a 150/0.5 or 300 lb/in spring.

Any tips on flat towing my TJ with a Class A motorhome?

Is the height of the ball on your class-A within a couple of inches of the height of the bumper mounts? It should be real close, particularly if you don’t have aux brakes.

Any tips on flat towing my TJ with a Class A motorhome?

I have flat towed mine about 40k miles now behind a 11.5k pound truck camper. I have aux brakes which work well but I have never towed without it to compare. Advice? Remember, you cannot back up more than four or five feet. Always be thinking about how you’re going to get out before turning...

Picked up a 99 on a whim. Fix death wobble or replace with new lift?

That movement of the track bar is really bad. It looks like a stock track bar but maybe the frame mount hole was drilled out previously for a different track bar so the conical bolt no longer fits properly? Why else would it be loose like that? At any rate, you’ve got to take care of that for...

    SwayLOC vs AntiRock

I have the Teraflex dual rate bar. I selected that bar over the Sway-loc because I think it has slightly greater clearance from the tire so I don’t have to add washers on the steering stops or use wheel spacers. It has worked well enough but it is not as easy to use as the Sway-Loc. You have to...

    Front drive shaft woes

I rebuilt my front DS a few years ago with all new Spicer parts. After that I had some pulsing vibration. I removed the DS and had it rebalanced. The vibration was less but still there. So I bought a new Tom Woods DS and with that installed the vibration was completely eliminated. I spent nearly...

    What's your favorite stowaway shovel?

It is a re-purposed Rotopax mount.

    Clutch chatter

If your drive shaft angle is too much due to a suspension lift or a tummy tuck it can cause this. I have a 2 inch lift and that caused no problems. Then I did a small (1 inch) tummy tuck and had chatter. A double Cardan shaft took care of that.

Chasing death wobble, check out my track bar

I think death wobble can be due to cumulative effects. When I had it I did the standard stuff…. re-balanced the tires (twice), dry steering test, checked the alignment, replaced the tires, tightened everything…… still had death wobble. So I just shotgunned it. New ball joints, unit bearings...

    Inside Rotopax mount?

I would caution against mounting a Rotopax for gas inside the cockpit if your travels include big altitude changes. I live at sea level and routinely drive over 10k foot passes. The Rotopax blow up like a balloon when I do this. If the cap is on very tight it will generally hold the pressure...

    Front suspension / steering question

I am pretty sure it is a brace for the dropped track bar bracket on the frame side.

Clunk coming from rear end on bumps

Do you have a track bar relocation bracket on the axle? If you do, check to make sure it is mounted tightly. Maybe even weld it on. I had a clunking sound it the back and this was the cause. Same comment if you have relocation brackets for the lower shock mounts.
