Rock Sliders / Rocker Guards Guide

He's not willing to drive. I've offered up my entire shop and tool collection for his use, and the 90 minute drive is too far. Kids these days....

We're trying to find the best pattern before putting it a little bit deep.

The outside diameter had nothing to do with how the ring and pinion mesh. The pattern doesn't have to line up in the middle of the teeth either. That would happen on a perfect gear set. If it was that simple, everyone would do it. 👍

That's what we need to see, Jeff. Way to put in the extra effort to make sure it's good. I personally like the 52, but it's only a 1 thou difference so I'm good with it. I would send the one you like best between the 51 and 52 to Ben and see how much deeper he thinks it should be and adjust...

I got to thinking after looking at the photos on my desktop. This is just a thought, but we never actually found the best pattern possible for a gear setup. What I mean is, take away your desire to have it slightly deep and find what would be a perfect pattern on any other gear set. Only then...

If you're within 2-3 thou, my guess is that you will be good - but with your history who knows 😁 I know your shim selection doesn't give you a whole lot of options, but I always strive to find the best pattern and then make my decision on which one to use. So, if you're deep now, is there still...

10, 5, 49, 7.........220, 221...whatever it takes...(bonus points for naming the movie...) The 10/5 pattern looks slightly shallow and the 49/7 pattern looks slightly deep (maybe what you were looking for?) How many thou difference between those two patterns do you think?

How does it all feel with the new gear installed? Does it feel anything like what you had in there before when turning it by hand?

I'm thinking it's still just slightly shallow. I'm curious to hear what Been has to say. I think you are close there....maybe within 2-3.
