Failed smog test for high nox

I'm not sure if that is something that can be tested for Greg. You might try Googling high NOX to get more information, just ignore all the suggestions for a bad EGR valve which the TJ doesn't have. Other causes can be bad engine timing (hard for an unmolested TJ to have) or a carbon buildup...

Failed smog test for high nox

A bad O2 sensor normally causes it to run rich and a high NOX often indicates the mixture is too lean. I looked around and confirmed a defective catalytic converter seems to be most likely where a TJ is concerned.

Tore off a shock mount, interference with rear axle (05 LJ)

Yep with 4" springs you'll definitely need a SYE/DC driveshaft and adjustable length rear control arms. 😊

Tore off a shock mount, interference with rear axle (05 LJ)

You have roughly a 2" suspension lift, the right Rancho RS5000x shocks would be for 0-2" lift.

Which size tire should I run?

Grimmjeeper is indeed great, I use it nearly every day. One initial hint... at the place where it says "Enter your own numbers" don't let that fool you. Click on it and you'll see a full menu of transmissions which automatically inputs all their ratios for you, find yours and click on it...

Tore off a shock mount, interference with rear axle (05 LJ)

With the insufficient fender clearance for your rear tires I would not bet on you having anywhere near a 3.5" suspension lift. It's clear now your shocks are too long for your suspension height and the cause of the torn off shock bracket. Not to mention Rancho's lift height guidance for their...

Tore off a shock mount, interference with rear axle (05 LJ)

Torn rear shock mounts always make me question whether the rear shocks were simply too long and bottomed out hard and often enough to tear the lower mounts off. And it's hard to see what's happening with the rear track bar. Can you take another photo from a little further away? Are you certain...

10 Worst Car Oil Filter Brands

By the way here's one of the reviews from Bob is the Oil Guy site that Lucas hated so much and removed. I found it on an archive site several years ago. http://web.archive.org/web/20080408023428/http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/images/lucas/lucas.htm

    Re-gearing cost / advice

I assisted with my last regearing and it was sure a great experience. It showed just how correct the comments are that it's not an easy job to get right. Even after having been hands-on for it I wouldn't attempt to do another regearing on my own. And I can't forget to make my near-daily...

    Intake?

Have you regeared your axles after installing the 33's? Your 42RLE requires the axles to be regeared to a lower ratio to restore the power lost by installing larger tires. Regearing to 5.13 would provide an immediate no-problem significant (!!!) boost in power while giving more appropriate...

10 Worst Car Oil Filter Brands

I always liked that site, though I don't like it nearly as much now as I did before Lucas bought it. Lucas didn't like their reviews of their products like Lucas Oil Stabilizer and the site refused to take them down. So Lucas bought the site and removed the anti-Lucas reviews. Now Lucas sees to...

Dana 35 Whine Immediately After Complete Rebuild

Bad gear set up if the whining started as soon as you left the shop. If the whining started after a driving it, were you doing the careful low-speed driving with lots of cool downs during the critical break-in process? And low speed driving during the break-in is the rule, ya gotta take it...

    35s on 4.56 42RLE

You're going to hate 4.56 with 35's and your 42RLE, really. I hated the 4.88 my present TJ came with with its 35" tires and 42RLE, I ended up regearing it to 5.38 which improved it dramatically. My mpg was never better than 11 mpg with the 4.88 gears because the engine was lugging with the...

Are you about to run a custom rear axle? If not the rear antiswaybar has about the same flex as the rear Antirock does. I run the factory rear antiswaybar, I only replaced its links with 4" longer all-thread with heim-joints replacements to match the lift height.

10 Worst Car Oil Filter Brands

I've watched a lot of videos showing how Indian shops & some smaller factories work to manufacture and repair, some of it is just downright amazing... not that I am saying I'd trust those oil filters. But I've seen them do repairs of axles and busted axle shafts, for example, that just blew my...

    Help me understand LJ sliders

Tub/body mounted sliders, which are bolted directly to the rockers like Savvy's are, are by far the strongest and most protective way to go. Frame mounted sliders require two spindly mounting brackets that connect between them and the frame and they flex and move around and don't protect the tub...
