    New Tool Day

I bought a 1/4” drive micrometer-type torque wrench from Tekton for some electrical work a while back. I was so pleased with it that I bought the 3/8” drive and would have bought the 1/2” drive if I did not already have one of another brand. They are really nice but not too expensive, are marked...

    Favorite Garden Hose?

I will give that a shot to get me by in the meantime, but I eventually would like to get a higher quality hose. Even if repaired, it still kinks far too easily.

    Favorite Garden Hose?

Any recommendations for a decent quality garden hose? The last one I purchased didn’t last nearly long enough. It always kinked easily and developed a large bubble near the spray head that burst, and now I need a replacement. I’m looking for one that will last this time.

    Dried up RTV

Drywall screw. Even if it doesn’t seal perfectly, the screw threads pull out the cured chunk at the end and it’s ready to use.

What pipe to use for shop air?

Well if the question is framed like that, I’d rather get hit by sch 40 shrapnel than sch 80 shrapnel, but that’s not the point. It’s not that PVC pipe can’t handle shop compressor pressures. The danger is that the failure mode of PVC under internal pressure is brittle fracture due to its...

    Shop and tool tips

A drywall screw threaded into the end of an opened caulk tube lets it seal well and provides an easy way to remove the bit of cured material in the end of the tip when it’s time to use it again. It’s the best way I’ve found to preserve partial tubes.

What pipe to use for shop air?

PSA for any unaware readers: do not use PVC piping for compressed air service.

    Clutch problems

The item I linked is for a 97 model. The 2004 and 1997 models are equipped with different manual transmissions, so it will likely not be compatible. Here is a link to your options on Rockauto for the 2004 model...

The unfortunate TJ of the day thread

Funny how the wing is just chilling in the low-pressure high turbulence zone right behind the soft top, completely out of the clean air stream above the car. I wonder how extensive the suspension mods are.

I love being from and living in California, but we all are f-ing nuts with our pricing!

We’re not even 4 whole weeks into the latest episode of the Endless Sand Wars™ and you guys are already whining about fuel prices? Do you have even the slightest notion of how much more expensive it’s going to get? That yellow LJ for 10k looks like a sweet deal. Someone should jump on it.

For all of us with two wheels also

Maybe try something like this protection jacket - chest/ribs, back, tailbone, shoulders, and elbows all in one. It’s comfy and breathable. I have been careful (lucky?) enough to not have taken a tumble in it yet, but I trust it’ll soften the blow if I do...

The little YJ that could 😊 Reality check - the tow rating of a YJ is 2,000 lbs. For the sake of everyone’s safety, don’t be that guy.

    Mid-arm LJ Rubicon

You could avoid the unsightly lines across the finished surface by changing the print orientation so that the appearance surface is the bottom of the part, which takes on the texture of the print bed instead of showing lines. The caveat is that the geometry of the part may force you to print it...
