2013 JK No Start - Help! (Long Post)

Load tested the battery. It shows 13.8v unloaded, which is really weird. Under load it takes a dump to about 3v. Amazing. Thanks to Jerry et al for the advice. I still have to check the alternator and wires (continuity/ground) but I am sure this was the issue. I hate electrical work because I...

2013 JK No Start - Help! (Long Post)

Took the starter to an alternator and starter shop here in town. All he did was apply power four times and it worked properly each time. He pronounced it good and did the test for free. However, is that all that is needed to test the motor: application of power? It seems to me that this would...

2013 JK No Start - Help! (Long Post)

Ah, did not know that. It worked on my Volvo recently, but that is a starter on a 1990 engine, so perhaps it is different. The JK starter is a Denso. I think the one on my TJ is a Bosch. On Hondas (certain models and years) they had problems with Denso starters dying young and suddenly. I think...

2013 JK No Start - Help! (Long Post)

I am assuming that this issue is the starter. The lightning bolt light on the dash is the Alternator Error lamp. The alternator is good since the battery was fully charged when the JK failed to crank. The battery may be damaged or bad, but I still think that this is the starter. It is just that...

2013 JK No Start - Help! (Long Post)

I will try to find time tomorrow to do some of this. I also purchased a battery load tester on Amazon. I hate electrical work, but I'm slowly learning it...

2013 JK No Start - Help! (Long Post)

I removed the battery and replaced it with the excellent Odyssey 34-PC1500T from my TJ. Same symptoms. It is the JK and not the battery, even if my old battery is toast the good one does no good, either.

2013 JK No Start - Help! (Long Post)

It all looks new. It started up strong as ever after having sat for a few hours. I parked it. Nothing unusual whatsoever. Then this the next morning. No symptoms or warnings at all.

2013 JK No Start - Help! (Long Post)

Not really checking the good or bad status as I can't (as you pointed out). I am just testing how much charge it has. The Odyssey is known-good as it turns the TJ over very nicely every time.

2013 JK No Start - Help! (Long Post)

I just went outside and unclamped both JK terminals and connected the TJ Odyssey directly to the JK clamps. Same deal, no codes, same lights, same popping or slow, metered clicks. For safety I have removed the JK battery and will connect it externally to my CTEK charger later tonight, and then...

2013 JK No Start - Help! (Long Post)

Oh, and I am sorry about posting up stuff about a JK, but I hoped that someone here might have a JK too (like me) and have come across this issue.

2013 JK No Start - Help! (Long Post)

The engine has not run once since this started. I may have misread a 12.6 for 12.9 as I have mild dyslexia. However, the battery in the JK read fully charged when it was not starting. I am more concerned with the loud popping symptom. What is that? I have never heard that in a vehicle, only...

2013 JK No Start - Help! (Long Post)

Well, my 2013 JK decided it no longer wanted to start a few days ago. It drove normally right up until I started it at 10:00 p.m. to pull it inside our gate. Ten hours later (8:00 a.m.) it would not start. It made the loud clicking sound you hear on my first recorded attempt with the external...

What did you do to your TJ today?

That is pure sexy, right there. I have my Felpro and am ready to go, but waiting until I drop my oil pan so I can do that gasket, the RMS and the valve cover all at once. (I will also be replacing the dented-up pan and cleaning up/repainting the valve cover.) I am sort of nervous as I have...

What did you do to your TJ today?

I'll get there. This is just intended to keep my feet and face from being burnt off in a vehicle fire while I get out. I intend to get a *real* one that is rechargeable in the future. Just grateful to have this since I have had nothing up to now, since 2003...

What did you do to your TJ today?

Finally got me a pretty good fire extinguisher. I did a lot of research and came across ColdFire. I really like how it works. Hope I never have to use it, but now I have some insurance. Seems to work equally well with gasoline, rubber, electrical, grease, plastics, etc. Very interesting stuff...

What did you do to your TJ today?

It is just a carport queen right now. I will have her looking like a new TJ when I am done. And then I can spend the next ten years beating the crap out of her. HAHAHA!!! I seriously cannot wait to get this thing on the trails. My JK is a lot of fun, but this thing will have 4.56 Revolution...

What did you do to your TJ today?

My Savvy MUA will be here on FRIDAY! YES!!! I already have the BL, MML, cable shifter, SYE and driveshaft. I have the main kit (crossmember and main skid) and the front skid on the way. I am stoked. I have been working towards a real tummy tuck for years. I have the Savvy gas tank skid already...

What did you do to your TJ today?

Very nice, man! I like some of the TJ's small details to pop a little, and I like colors on some major parts that are a little different while not being bizarre. Here are some details from my TJ... Red Johnny Joint Washers to replace my cam bolts... Silver steering knuckles... Silver...
