To worry, or not to worry? 32rh freshly rebuilt

I know you are right. I was just hoping to bury my head in the sand and make all the bad metal shavings go away. One of those days.. On a further note, builder said it looked like torque converter break in. I never knew there was anything to break in on torque converters?

To worry, or not to worry? 32rh freshly rebuilt

This is the 32rh out of my rock crawler. It has less than 300 miles on the freshly rebuilt trans. I dropped it due to a pan gasket leak. There were no signs or issues the entire trip that would make me think the trans had any issue whatsoever. Trans has a neutral bypass (keeps pump running even...

How to align your Jeep Wrangler TJ

Not to take this thread too far, but are there any methods for centering axles? My rear is a 4 link and front is a 3 link. I am fighting having the axle centered side to side under the vehicle. I can't use bump stop tricks as everything was custom built. I have tried grabbing cross measurements...

    Drummond Island Michigan

I'm down in the Saginaw area, but have a cottage on black lake. Wouldn't mind trying Drummond with my new build. How is it in winter? (I hate mud)

TJ Steering Shafts and Bearings: What I Know

Not so tight is scratches off the finish, but tight enough there is zero felt play or movement when someone turns the wheel and you hold the shaft. I found this whole setup on summit. The bar is DD and it gives suggestions to same sized universals and heims. The only changes.i had to make is...

TJ Steering Shafts and Bearings: What I Know

My pic might not do what you want. I said mine has a 5/8 heim joint instead of that entire piece.

TJ Steering Shafts and Bearings: What I Know

If I need to show myself the door, let me know.. BUT I just cut that piece out completely. I bought a 2' x 5/8 DD bar and a universal joint for said DD bar. Then ran the new bar through a 5/8 heim joint.. I have no slop, no steering issues. I can grab pics if needed

    Evap canister orientation?

At the end of all of this I relocated it to the inner fender support, driver side. (Passenger side has the battery tray). I also ran all new nylon braided lines with an fittings from tank to valve. And from intake to valve. Valve/solenoid is on the second shelf of the inner fender support and...

    Fuel filler tube ground strap

If I remember correctly, the fuel pump ground runs in the harness that grabs your speedo off the tcase, then the trans connector and lockout, then moves through the upper and lower O2 sensors before making it into the engine compartment where a ground was connected to the firewall.

    Fuel filler tube ground strap

I hate to say it, but I think you have the dreaded bad ground somewhere. Lol The ground strap at the filler is for safety only. The filler is connected to the body, typically by plastic, and to the plastic tank by a rubber hose. So to ensure an isolated part is grounded the strap is ran. I'm...

$1000 98 TJ ground up build

I didn't know at the time what I was going to need for drive shaft clearances, so I errored on the side of caution. But it sits nicely right where the rear seat sits at the ledge after the foot well. Not in the body at all.

$1000 98 TJ ground up build

I appreciate the kind words. This was a huge project and turned into a passion. A bit on motor, trans, and mechanics. Motor went to a build shop and got pushed out 30. New pistons, rods, and wrist pins (for known issues). Lunati cut a custom cam with a much higher lift so the head was...

$1000 98 TJ ground up build

I have never been known to build anything chinsy. The gas tank skid weighs 165lbs, made out of 1/4" and 3/16" plate. Engineered to fall off a 1 meter shelf without taking yield.

$1000 98 TJ ground up build

So I bought a 98 about 2-3 years ago for $1000. Frame was junk, body was rough. I wanted the tub, motor, and trans. 10 months ago I got serious and decided to build as much as possible myself in my garage. I have tons of pictures, so more can be added, but I can give some highlights here...

    Evap canister orientation?

Even though this received no traction. Laying the canister on its side had no ill effect for me.

My more complicated than necessary fix. But trail proven.

    Evap canister orientation?

I am working through a custom build and I am wondering if on a 98 tj does the evap canisters orientation matter? I think I can sneak it into the drivers side battery tray area, but it would be upright as opposed to factory orientation, on its side. Does this matter?

Transfer case input shaft automatic vs manual.

I have seen a lot of people talking about different lengths in input shaft for a manual vs automatic. Just thought I would throw these out here in case it can help anyone. If not mods feel free to remove. Longer shaft from a 32rh np231 Short shaft from NV3550 np241
